Job Description

Job Summary A hospital cook prepares and cooks meals according to approved menus, recipes, and patients' dietary needs. The cook ensures that food is properly portioned, cooked, stored, and served while maintaining high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and food safety. Duties Prepare and cook meals according to hospital menus and recipes. Follow special diets, such as low-sodium, diabetic, soft, or pureed diets, as instructed. Measure and portion food accurately. Maintain proper food temperatures to prevent contamination. Keep kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas clean and sanitary. Store food properly and check food quality and expiration dates. Coordinate with dietitians, kitchen staff, and other hospital personnel. Follow hospital health, safety, and sanitation policies. Help prepare meals on time for scheduled patient meal services. Experience Food preparation and cooking
  • Experience preparing meals, soups, vegetables, meat, rice, and other dishes. Institutional or large-scale cooking
  • Experience cooking for many people, such as in a hospital, hotel, school, cafeteria, or catering service. Special-diet meal preparation
  • Experience preparing meals according to dietary restrictions, such as low-sodium, diabetic, soft, pureed, or liquid diets. Food safety and sanitation
  • Experience following proper food handling, storage, cleaning, and sanitation procedures. Kitchen equipment operation
  • Experience using ovens, stoves, steamers, mixers, refrigerators, and other commercial kitchen equipment. Portioning and meal preparation
  • Experience measuring ingredients and preparing meals according to standardized recipes and portions. Inventory management
  • Experience checking food supplies, expiration dates, and proper food storage. Teamwork
  • Experience working with kitchen staff, supervisors, dietitians, nurses, or other personnel. Working under pressure
  • Experience preparing and serving meals on schedule in a busy kitchen.
