Job Description

Anita's Gardens Assisted Living is looking for a full-time cook to prepare meals for residents daily. Serve-Safe Certification is preferred, along with CBRF Certifications. 16-28 hours per week, more hours may be available for pick-up or as a caregiver. Responsibilities include ordering food supplies, menu planning, sanitary preparation of food, and the care and storage of food supplies. Assisting staff with serving food to the residents. The cook must perform all duties in a sanitary way and according to state guidelines. Additional training will be available upon hire.
General Responsibility:
To prepare and serve nutritious, good tasting and appealing meals and snacks to the residents, families and employees in any of Anita's Gardens CBRF communities. The cook is responsible for all activities related to the menu and meal planning which includes, but not limited to; procurement of food and supplies, the care and storage of such items, ensuring quality and quantity, preforming cleaning and sanitary functions, adhering to all dietary guidelines established in DHS-83. The cook shall check in with all residents to ensure that they are enjoying their meals and take action to correct any problems. This position involves extensive organizing, problem solving, record keeping, and time management. The duties and responsibilities listed below are a general representation of what is expected of this position. Duties and responsibilities are subject to change based on communities needs and/or deemed necessary by management.
Daily Duties:
1. Purchase food and supplies necessary to prepare the planned menus and snacks, while staying within the designated budget. Log and keep track of budget and receipts. 2. Menus must always be posted with alternative options for staff and residents to view. Plans menus far enough in advance to minimize the need for substitutions, notes all modifications and substitutes on posted menu and/or board. 3. Prepares meals and snacks in such a way to ensure foods taste good and look appealing, and that there are ample amounts of food for residents to have as many servings as they need. 4. Meet all scheduled meal and snack times. 5. Responsible for all clean up after meals, including dishes and work areas. 6. Assures the proper care and maintenance of all food service equipment, identifies equipment needs. 7. Be knowledgeable and follow all Federal, State, and community's rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Maintains an orderly, sanitary and safe kitchen. 8. Assist activity directors with the development and planning of food activities with the residents. 9. Must accommodate any special dietary needs for residents and follow any physician order for diet modifications/restrictions. 10. Responsible for all necessary planning and preparation for birthdays, holidays and any special events. 11. Immediately report to manager/nurse any emergency needs of the resident. 12. Ensure accurate record keeping of all services in the resident's progress notes, care plan log and other occurrences or issues such as; behavior tracking log, incident report, food log, etc. 13. Answer phone professionally and relay proper message to resident, employee or other contact. This includes writing the date, taking a name, phone number and a message of what call was regarding. 14. Required to attend all in-services, meetings and training. Cooperates with and participates in dietary education in-services and training. 15. Provide a home-like atmosphere for all residents. 16. Understand and follow community's fire and disaster plans. Required to assist residents in emergencies; fire, tornado, drills, etc. 17. Required to call the appropriate department in cases of emergency; 911, EMTs, fire department, local police department, management, nurse. 18. Required to abstain from breaks during any meal times. 19. Maintain resident confidentiality per HIPAA requirements.
Other Requirements:
1. Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required especially in situations that cannot be avoided such as; severe weather, employee injury, etc. Up to 4 hours is expected, until someone can come in to relieve you. 2. Expected to frequently walk, stand, bend, lift, reach, communicate, listen etc. 3. Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. 4. Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. 5. Follow DHS guidelines and Anita's Gardens policies and procedures. 6. Employees may be exposed to hazardous materials and infectious diseases. In these situations employees will be required to wear gloves, gowns and/or masks.
Qualifications:
1. Ability to exercise independent judgement and work independently. 2. Ability to operate various types of kitchen equipment as assigned. 3. Ability to maintain good relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds. 4. Must be sensitive, compassionate and caring to the special needs of the residents. 5. Must have reliable transportation. 6.

Must maintain an acceptable work attendance. 8. Must be reliable and prompt when reporting to work.
Pay:
$18.00 - $22.00 per hour
