In this position, you will be responsible for washing dishes, maintaining kitchen areas, and assisting with food prep and equipment. Additionally, this role will require you to assist with maintenance and housekeeping tasks and provide support to the Maintenance Director when needed. All kitchen staff must wear hair restraints and slip-resistant shoes, and attain ServSafe Food Handler Certification annually.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Dishwashing & Cleaning:
Wash dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment using dishwashers or by hand. Place clean dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment in storage areas.
Stocking & Organization:
Stock supplies such as food, utensils, and equipment in serving stations, cupboards, refrigerators, or salad bars. Retrieve and store goods as needed.
Food Prep Assistance:
Assist with food preparation tasks (non-cooking duties) as assigned. Follow daily prep lists provided by your supervisor.
Kitchen Sanitation:
Sweep or scrub floors and maintain the cleanliness of kitchen and dining areas. Keep refuse areas clean and free of debris. Clean garbage cans with water or steam and ensure trash is removed to designated areas. Complete a weekly cleaning list as assigned by leadership.
HACCP & Safety Standards:
Adhere to HACCP regulations and maintain kitchen tracking paperwork. Follow all safety protocols, including proper handling of hot food and equipment.
Maintenance & Housekeeping Support:
Assist with maintenance and housekeeping duties as needed, including helping to keep the facility clean and well-maintained. Provide additional support to the Maintenance Director when requested, especially during peak times or for special projects.
Teamwork & Adaptability:
Work collaboratively with kitchen staff to meet operational needs. Demonstrate teamwork in all situations and assist as needed in other kitchen and facility areas.
Additional Duties:
Keep the wet refuse room clean (to be used only with approval from the Culinary Director). Ensure your workstation is checked by leadership before ending your shift. Arrive at your workstation on time and in proper dress code.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
1-2 years of related experience or training, preferably in a kitchen, maintenance, or food service environment.
Certificates & Licenses:
ServSafe Food Handler Certificate required (must be obtained annually). Completion of ALF training as required for this role.
Skills & Abilities:
Ability to communicate effectively with kitchen staff, maintenance staff, and other team members. Basic knowledge of kitchen operations, maintenance tasks, and safety practices. Ability to handle repetitive motions and perform manual tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
Physical Demands:
Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Requires close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to walk, stand, kneel, and perform tasks that require bending or reaching.
Work Environment:
Exposure to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), moving mechanical parts, and high-heat areas of the kitchen. Regularly exposed to high-stress levels during service time, and occasional fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Additional Information:
All kitchen staff must be adaptable and willing to assist with any task necessary to meet operational needs. A compassionate attitude toward working with the elderly and respecting their dignity is a must.
