Non-Exempt Reports to: Director of Guest Services Core Values Inclusion, Creative Excellence, Innovation, Collaboration, Purposeful Service Position Overview The Usher position supports the front-of-house operations in all activities needed to provide a positive guest experience and to ensure guest safety. This position within the guest services department effectively maintains and implements safety protocols while being positive, engaging, contemporary, supportive of the arts community, and representative of TPAC's core values. By providing outstanding service, this position is vital to TPAC's programming, events, and the overall guest experience. Primary Responsibilities Welcomes guests by giving directions, assisting with seating, ticket taking, observing, and attending to guests' needs. Supports Guest Services Management & TPAC's Accessible Services Team. Works alongside TPAC Volunteers as needed to support overall guest experience. Communicates and educates guests on venue and event policies both internal and those requested by the event. Listens to guest inquiries and resolve any issues in a helpful, respectful, responsive, and professional manner. Checks their assigned area for potential safety concerns, cleanliness, lost and found items, and report to your immediate Supervisor. Assists with both the Security and Safety Department along with the Guest Services Department in safely evacuating audiences out of the venue as needed. Provides a courteous and welcoming environment for both guests and fellow team members, promoting a positive work environment. The responsibilities listed above are not all inclusive. Other related duties may be assigned. Availability and Scheduling Usher staff are required to submit availability for a minimum of 4 events and/or performances each 2-week scheduling period, shifts are a 4-hour minimum. Weekend evening availability is required for this position. New Usher staff must complete onboarding, orientation, and all assigned training shifts.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
Availability of 4 shifts in a 2-week period. Shifts are a 4-hour minimum. Daily email access. Consistent professional and neat presentation. Enjoys working with the public.
Preferred:
Customer Service Experience. Ability to work well in a group. Ability to manage crowds and remain calm in stressful situations. Previous venue usher experience. Frequent Functions and Working Conditions Face to face contact with guests and other employees. Utilizing a two-way radio via an earpiece. Standing and being stationary for long periods of time. Ascending and descending flights of stairs and working at high elevation for long periods of time. Working in the dark with loud noises, flashing lights, theatrical haze, and other special effects. Utilizing electronic ticket scanners that require the use of physical buttons and touch screens.
Occasional Functions include:
Lifting and moving program boxes up to 30 lbs. Hand dexterity in regard ticket scanners. Bending and stooping. Ability to work outside in all weather conditions including hot and cold temperatures.
