ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Leadership & Team Development
Lead, develop, and hold accountable assigned staff, instructors, coaches, and volunteers.
Recruit and retain a strong team through effective onboarding, training, communication, coaching, delegation, and performance management.
Foster a collaborative culture of accountability, belonging, engagement, and continuous improvement.
Build leadership capacity in others and collaborate across locations to share expertise, resources, and best practices. Facility & Program Leadership
Provide leadership for the overall wellness experience, ensuring programs, services, spaces, and teams are safe, welcoming, high-quality, and responsive to member and community needs.
Maintain a visible leadership presence and build strong relationships with members, staff, volunteers, branch leadership, and other departments.
Ensure wellness programs and operations meet YMCA standards and expectations for quality, safety, accessibility, certifications, and risk management.
Evaluate programs, services, staffing, equipment, and facility needs to support strong operations and member experience.
Partner with association-wide program leads to effectively implement wellness strategies and best practices at the facility level.
Take ownership of facility-level Wellness staffing and service gaps, including adjusting schedules and stepping into operations when necessary. Evaluate recurring needs, pursue solutions within existing resources, and bring forward well-vetted recommendations to the Senior Healthy Living Director when additional staffing or investment may be warranted. Program Growth & Performance
Develop and evaluate programs and services that strengthen participation, engagement, retention, health outcomes, and community impact.
Monitor participation, feedback, outcomes, revenue, expenses, and other performance measures to guide decisions and continuous improvement.
Manage assigned budgets and resources responsibly while balancing mission impact, program quality, staffing capacity, and financial sustainability.
Collaborate across departments to strengthen programming, communication, marketing, fundraising, and participant experience. Association Leadership & Collaboration
Serve as an association-wide leader and subject matter resource for assigned wellness initiatives, with primary focus on Evidence-Based Health Initiatives.
Develop and champion best practices, resources, and strategies that strengthen quality, consistency, and sustainable implementation across locations.
Collaborate with Wellness Directors and other YMCA leaders to advance priorities and respond to emerging member and community needs.
Develop and strengthen relationships with healthcare providers, public health organizations, employers, schools, community organizations, funders, and other partners that expand access, referrals, resources, and community impact.
Represent Wellness and the YMCA professionally through community partnerships, coalitions, special events, outreach, and other opportunities as assigned.
Maintain the knowledge and applicable qualifications necessary to support program delivery when gaps arise while taking ownership of sustainable staffing, funding, and delivery solutions that maintain program quality and fidelity.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Health Promotion, Kinesiology, Public Health, Recreation Management, or a related field preferred.
Maintain multiple certifications in a nationally recognized organization (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM, etc.) in personal training and/or health coaching, and group fitness.
Demonstrated leadership experience in wellness, community health, fitness, recreation, or a related field.
Experience supervising and developing staff and leading programs, projects, or operational areas.
Strong leadership, communication, coaching, organizational, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage budgets, evaluate performance measures, and use data to support decision-making and continuous improvement.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams and build effective internal and community partnerships.
Ability to relate effectively to people of diverse backgrounds, abilities, experiences, and perspectives.
Relevant professional certifications and YMCA-required safety certifications as appropriate to assigned responsibilities.
Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED training through American Red Cross is required for all employees of the YMCA of Greater Michiana, this training will be offered at no cost.

Pay:
$45,000.00 - $49,000.00 per year
