POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Day Camp Coordinator, the Day Camp Group Leader is responsible for the social, physical, spiritual, and mental development of each child within their care. In accordance with ODJFS and "Step Up to Quality" standards, he or she will also be responsible for the implementation of all activities, as well as keeping the safety and well-being of the children as a first priority.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Implements high-quality, childcare programs and activities for assigned groups. Maintains compliance with federal, state, local, and camp regulations as they relate to program areas. Ensures YMCA standards are met, safety procedures are followed, and ensures the safety and well-being of children as a first priority. Interacts with children on their individual levels of development. Helps to develop and implement weekly lesson plans that are effective and fit children's needs, interests, and developmental levels. Assists with distributing meals and snacks that meet all nutritional guidelines and completes necessary documentation. Helps to manage and control program budget and ensures program operates within budget and program fees are collected. Implements marketing for childcare programs that positively impact the attendance registration of these programs. Assists in responding to all agency, parent, and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner. Documents and reports to the Day Camp Coordinator any special needs or problems of an individual child, staff, or parent(s). Assists with maintaining the appearance of the classroom/outside areas which includes keeping supplies, materials, and equipment in the rooms in a neat and orderly fashion. Attends staff meetings and ongoing training. Drives the Well Being Promise and initiatives; Create intentional focus on Achievement, Relationships, and Belonging through all communication including marketing, emails, and phone calls to members, participants, and the community; Carries out the Well Being expectations of the most welcoming place on earth. Connects with staff, parents, and children through ABR (achievement, belonging and relationships.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.

Certifications:

Current First Aid, Communicable Disease, Child Abuse Recognition and Prevention and CPR certifications or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Possess knowledge and understanding of the developmental stages of a child. Have a valid driver's license and capable of driving to multiple site locations. Have proficient computer skills. Be at least 18 years of age.

The employee will be occasionally exposed to outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind. Must be able to interpret, adopt, and apply guidelines and procedures. Must be creative and enthusiastic to staff and program participants. Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills with families, children, and other staff. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency. Ability to maintain emotional control and composure in turbulent, challenging and changing conditions. The noise level is typically moderate to high.
