This internship provides students with hands-on experience in event operations, customer service, organizational management, and higher education advancement. The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, and interested in gaining practical experience in event coordination and alumni relations within a professional university setting. Through this internship, students get real-world experience behind the scenes of events—from helping with planning and logistics to welcoming guests and making sure everything runs smoothly throughout events. Along the way, students will build skills in event planning, communication, customer service, teamwork, and organization that they can take with them into future internships and careers. What this position gets to do: Help plan and coordinate fun, engaging alumni events Work with university staff, alumni, students, and campus partners Gain hands-on experience with event setup, logistics, and day-of operations Interact with guests and help create a great event experience Build professional skills while getting to know more people across the Lamar University community Through this internship, students will gain experience in: Event coordination and logistics Alumni engagement and customer service Professional communication and teamwork Time management and organizational skills Administrative operations within higher education Professional event preparation and execution Essential Job Functions Assisting with the planning, preparation, and execution of alumni events and programs Supporting event setup, breakdown, logistics, and guest experience Assisting with event inventory organization and supply management Providing administrative support through filing, data entry, and office organization Assisting with mailings and alumni outreach projects Utilizing Microsoft Word and Excel for event and office support tasks Delivering campus mail and assisting with departmental errands Collaborating with staff on special projects and departmental initiatives Attending and assisting with evening or weekend events as needed Maintaining a professional, organized, and positive work environment Completing other duties as assigned in support of Alumni Affairs operations
Minimum and Desired Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Must be full-time undergraduate Lamar University student Minimum 2.5 GPA Strong communication and interpersonal skills Dependable, punctual, and organized Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced environment Ability to receive and apply feedback professionally Ability to maintain confidentiality Professional demeanor and customer service mindset Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Ability to follow directions and collaborate as part of a team Proficiency in or willingness to learn Microsoft Office programs, including Word and Excel Ability to lift up to 20 pounds Must be eligible to work in the
United States Desired Qualifications:
Interest in event management, communications, public relations, nonprofit work, hospitality, or higher education Prior customer service or event experience preferred, but not required
Supplemental Information Physical Requirements:
This position requires physical activity related to event setup and breakdown, including lifting and moving materials up to 20 pounds. The role also requires walking to various locations across campus.
Job Conditions:
This position includes a combination of office responsibilities and event-related activities. Some evening and weekend work may be required in support of alumni events and programs.
Work Hours:
Minimum 15 hours per week. Maximum 19.5 hours per week. The Office of Alumni Affairs is open Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm with some nights and weekends.
