Assistant General Manager Hotel Operations & Sales

Job Description

Assistant General Manager - Hotel Operations & Sales Fairfield by Marriott | Magnus Hotel Management Are you the person who sees an empty hotel lobby and thinks, "How can we fill those rooms?" Do you enjoy working with people, solving problems, building relationships, and figuring out how to make things better? Magnus Hotel Management is looking for an Assistant General Manager who is equal parts hospitality leader, salesperson, problem solver, and team builder. This is not a sit-behind-the-desk position. We are looking for someone who wants to be involved in the day-to-day operation of the entire hotel and who understands that sometimes leadership means making a sales call, coaching an employee, talking with a guest, reviewing a report, helping the front desk, or figuring out why something isn't working. We're looking for someone with drive, initiative, personality, and a genuine desire to succeed. Hotel experience is preferred, but we're also willing to recognize a great candidate who has the right attitude, strong customer service skills, and the ability to learn. What You'll Do Lead the Hotel The AGM works closely with the General Manager to oversee the daily operation of the hotel and serves as a key leader for the entire property. You will be expected to understand how the different departments of a hotel work together, including: Front Office Housekeeping Maintenance Sales Accounting Guest Services Revenue Management You don't have to be the expert in everything on day one: but you do need to be willing to learn it. You'll help ensure the hotel is operating efficiently, employees are supported and held accountable, guests are taken care of, and company and Marriott brand standards are being followed. Own Guest Satisfaction Great hotels are built around great guest experiences. You'll help manage guest satisfaction from check-in to check-out by: Creating a welcoming and service-focused environment Responding to guest concerns and finding solutions Monitoring guest satisfaction scores and online reviews Coaching employees on customer service Identifying recurring guest issues and finding ways to improve them Leading by example when it comes to hospitality Customer service isn't optional in this role—it is a requirement . Lead & Develop Employees You'll be an active leader in the hotel, not just a manager on paper.
Responsibilities include:
Recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training employees Coaching and developing team members Holding employees accountable to expectations Helping create a positive and professional work environment Managing staffing and scheduling needs Supporting department leaders and employees Addressing employee and operational issues appropriately We want someone who can build relationships with employees while still being willing to lead, coach, and hold people accountable.
SELL THE HOTEL
This is a major part of the position. We are looking for someone who is comfortable getting out from behind the desk and actively bringing business into the hotel. You will be responsible for helping drive hotel sales through: Making outbound sales calls Developing and maintaining relationships with local businesses Prospecting new corporate accounts Following up on leads and RFPs Creating and maintaining contracts Conducting sales visits Building relationships with community organizations and local partners Developing hotel packages and promotions Identifying new revenue opportunities Following up with existing accounts Tracking sales activity and results Working with the team to convert opportunities into actual bookings Helping optimize internet advertising and the hotel's online presence If you see an opportunity to sell a room, a meeting, a package, or a relationship—you should be the person who goes after it. We're looking for someone who is comfortable asking for the business and persistent enough to follow up. Understand the Business This position also requires a strong understanding of the financial and administrative side of hotel operations. You will work with hotel reports, labor, budgets, forecasting, accounts receivable, direct billing, cash controls, and other financial information. The hotel uses M3 accounting , and the AGM will be expected to develop and maintain a working knowledge of the system and understand how the hotel's operational decisions impact its financial performance. You don't need to be an accountant. You do need to understand that a hotel is a business. Be Willing to Do What It Takes Hotels don't always operate on a 9-5 schedule. This position requires flexibility, availability, and a willingness to work different shifts, weekends, holidays, and varying schedules based on the needs of the hotel. There will be days when you're working on sales. There will be days when you're coaching employees. There will be days when you're dealing with a guest issue. And there may be days when you need to jump in and help the front desk, housekeeping, or another department. That's hotel life. We need someone who understands that leadership isn't about saying, "That's not my job." It's about saying, "What does the hotel need, and how can I help?" What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who: Has strong customer service and hospitality skills Enjoys working with people Has leadership or management experience Is comfortable having difficult conversations and holding people accountable Has sales experience or a strong desire and ability to sell Is confident making outbound calls and developing business relationships Is organized and able to follow up Is comfortable learning financial and operational reports Can learn and utilize systems such as M3 and hotel operating systems Communicates clearly and professionally Can multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment Takes initiative without always waiting to be told what to do Is willing to work across departments when needed Has a flexible schedule and is available to work weekends and holidays as needed Understands that guest satisfaction, employee performance, and hotel revenue are all connected Hotel Experience Is Preferred—But Potential Matters. Maybe you've been an AGM before. Maybe you've been a department manager who is ready for the next step. Maybe you're an experienced salesperson who knows how to build relationships and close business. Or maybe you have the personality, work ethic, customer-service mindset, and leadership ability we've been looking for—and just need someone to give you the opportunity. We're looking for the right person, not just the perfect résumé. If you're ambitious, personable, resourceful, competitive, and genuinely enjoy hospitality, we want to meet you.
