SUMMARY:
The Custodian, carries out janitorial duties that will provide a clean and safe school environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Cleans rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, rest rooms, corridors, stairways, and locker rooms and other work areas. Cleans lighting fixtures and trim.
Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors. Cleans rugs, carpets. Dusts furniture and equipment.
Polishes metalwork. Washes walls, ceiling, and woodwork. Washes windows, door panels, sills and blinds.
Empties wastebaskets, and transports trash and waste to the disposal area. Replenishes bathroom, classroom, and office supplies. Assists with necessary jobs relating to special programs and/or activities.
Example:
setting up chairs and tables.
Notifies supervisor of any repair needs. Advises Lead Custodian and/or Principal of any vandalism and/or suspicious behavior.
Locks and secures designated areas.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Ability to communicate effectively verbally.
Knowledge of safe and efficient custodial practices.
Ability to safely use power equipment related to custodial practices.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations.
Ability to establish priority ordering of tasks necessary to complete tasks and convey these understandings and priorities to others.
Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents and community members.
Ability to cope with job stress while exhibiting patience and tact when dealing with others.
Perform all duties in accordance with Federal and State laws, district procedures and Board policies.
Ability to handle confrontation and conflict without an emotional response.
Produce accurate work and complete assignments with minimal supervision.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred but not required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

WORK ENVIRONMENT
School environment. This position regularly works indoors and occasionally outdoors. The noise level in the work environment is generally quiet to moderate and may become excessively noisy at times. Will have contact with students, employees and the public.
