Job Description

POSITION

Lead Custodian for the 2026-2027 School Year

JOB DETAILS

236 Days - Classified Hourly Salary Schedule D2

LOCATION(S): Adairsville MS

START DATE:

as soon as possible

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervises custodial staff as school location
  • Communicates maintenance needs to Maintenance and Facilities Department as necessary
  • Attends required meetings for Lead Custodians
  • Reports areas of concern regarding custodial staff and/or building maintenance to
    administrators
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms and dressing rooms to include all fixtures, faucets, drain pipes,
    mirrors, commodes, sinks, urinals, window sills, ledges, air vents, floors, and walls daily
  • Clean windows, window ledges, furniture, and equipment in all assigned areas daily
  • Sweep or vacuum and mop hard surfaces of assigned rooms and corridors
  • Vacuum and spot clean assigned carpeted rooms and hallways daily
  • Empty and clean trash cans in all assigned areas daily
  • Assist in maintaining the inventory of custodial supplies, tools and materials for use in the
    facility
  • Assist in the supervision of the physical security of the facility as required
  • Provide emergency clean-up for spills and mishaps throughout the facility
  • Inspect building lighting fixtures daily
  • Assist in lifting and moving heavy objects and furniture as required
  • Assist in setting up facilities for programs, meetings, etc. as required
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal regulations and laws relating to job
    assignment
  • Communicate effectively with the staff members, students, administrators, and other contact
    persons using tact and good judgment
  • Follow attendance, punctuality, and proper dress rules
  • Ensure adherence to good safety standards
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters
  • Model and maintain high ethical standards
  • Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities
  • Maintain expertise in assigned area to fulfill project goals and objectives
  • Participate successfully in the training programs offered to increase skill and proficiency
    related to assignment
  • Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events
  • Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner
  • Exhibit interpersonal skills as an effective team member
  • Demonstrate support for the school system and its goals and priorities
  • Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems or opportunities for
    improvement
  • Prepare all required reports and maintain all appropriate records
  • Participate in cross-training activities as required
  • Maintains prompt and regular attendance
  • Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Training or experience in custodial work
  • Proficient in the use of custodial equipment, yard tools and cleaning chemicals
  • Effective us of ladder up to 100 feet
  • Ability to perform routine duties guided by standard practice
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Regular sitting, standing, walking, stooping, and/or kneeling
  • Lifting and/or moving items up to 75 pounds, occasionally up to 100 pounds
  • Pushing, pulling and/or reaching overhead
  • Ability to operate light machinery as provided
  • Climbing of stairs, ladders or other structures in exercise of duties
  • Ability to work in different weather conditions, i.
