Part time Custodian

Job Description

The custodian is a support position working under the immediate supervision of the building principal. Custodians may be assigned to any job duty that the principal deems appropriate. Custodian may be assigned to special duties by the Custodial Supervisor or the Director of Plant Operations. Duties and Responsibilities Under the supervision of the school principal, the custodian will carry out the following duties: Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, neat and clean at all times. Regulates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning system to provide temperature appropriate to the season and to insure economical usage of fuel, water and electricity. Shovels, plows, and/or sands walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps, as appropriate Checks daily to insure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hour of building occupancy. Sweeps classrooms daily and dusts furniture. Cleans corridors after school each day and during the day when assigned or when their condition requires it. Prepares floors for waxing and sealing. Includes mopping, scrubbing, and operating various cleaning machines. Scrubs, hoses down, cleans and disinfects toilet, restroom floors, sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily. Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year and more frequently if necessary. Keeps the grounds free from rubbish. Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation. Makes such minor building repairs as he/she is capable of. Report major repairs needed promptly to the principal Reports immediately to the principal any damage to school property. Remains on the school premises during school hours, and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance is required by the principal. Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off. Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep and repair Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal. Complies with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste. Accepts other duties as assigned by the principal. Minimum Requirements Be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, sit, climb and lift items of approximately 50 pounds throughout the workday. Be able to operate vacuum cleaners and scrubbing machines. Must possess a valid Georgia Drivers license with a clean driving record.
