Job Description

Essential Job Functions:
Daily Cleaning Duties Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust assigned areas. Clean and sanitize classrooms, offices, hallways, locker rooms, and restrooms. Empty trash and recycling containers and replace liners. Refill restroom supplies including soap, paper towels, and toilet paper. Clean windows, mirrors, doors, and other surfaces. Maintain cafeteria and common areas in a sanitary condition. Facility Support Duties Assist with gymnasium, weight room, and athletic facility cleaning. Set up and tear down tables, chairs, and equipment for school events and activities. Support preparation and cleanup for concerts, sporting events, meetings, and community functions. Assist with seasonal cleaning projects including floor waxing, carpet extraction, and deep cleaning. Safety and Maintenance Responsibilities Follow district cleaning standards and disinfecting procedures. Safely operate custodial equipment including floor scrubbers, buffers, vacuums, shampooers and related tools. Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, vandalism, or damaged equipment to supervisors. Follow OSHA safety standards and district policies regarding chemical handling and PPE use. Help maintain secure buildings by checking doors and reporting unauthorized activity. Other Responsibilities Maintain confidentiality regarding students, student records, parents, staff, and any other school related issues. Promote a positive image of the District at all times. Perform other duties assigned by Supervisor, Superintendent, or Building Principal.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous custodial or janitorial experience preferred but not required. Experience working in schools or public facilities is beneficial. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of proper cleaning methods and sanitation procedures. Ability to safely use custodial chemicals and equipment. Ability to work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision. Strong time-management and organizational skills. Ability to communicate professionally with staff, students, and the public. Dependable attendance and punctuality required.
Working Conditions:
The custodial staff works in a school environment with exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, noise, and frequent movement throughout district facilities. Team members are expected to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and positive interactions with students and staff at all times. Evenings and Early Morning hours by be required. Occasional overtime may be required during school events, summer cleaning, or emergencies.
Physical/Mental Demands:
The usual and customary duties require the following physical demands: significant lifting of moderate and heavy weight, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent walking, stooping, kneeling, twisting, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Working around equipment and machinery having moving parts and generating heat and moderate noise. Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, push, and pull for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions. Ability to climb ladders and operate cleaning equipment safely.
