Hawley Public Schools is seeking a dependable, hardworking, and team-oriented Lead Custodian to help maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for our students, staff, and community. Position Overview The Lead Custodian works under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor and is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of school facilities. This position also provides leadership and coordination for evening custodial staff and helps prepare the building for school and community activities and events. Key Responsibilities Maintain school buildings, sidewalks, driveways, playgrounds, and other areas in a clean, safe, and orderly condition. Sweep, vacuum, mop, dust, clean restrooms, corridors, classrooms, and other areas as needed. Shovel and sand/salt sidewalks during winter weather. Monitor exit doors, panic hardware, and other safety features. Open and/or close the building and ensure doors, windows, and lights are secured as appropriate. Raise and lower the United States flag as directed. Wash windows and shampoo carpets as needed. Maintain floors in a clean and well-preserved condition. Perform minor building maintenance and repairs, including light bulb replacement, minor plumbing repairs, furniture repairs, and other routine maintenance. Change HVAC filters and assist with HVAC monitoring and troubleshooting. Move furniture and equipment for school and community activities. Track school and community events and help coordinate setup, teardown, and cleanup. Adjust daily evening custodial schedules based on events, staffing needs, and building priorities. Check that evening shift duties are completed. Serve as a liaison between evening custodial staff and the Maintenance Supervisor. Assist with training new custodial employees. Participate in required training and maintain knowledge of safety procedures and Employee Right to Know requirements. Communicate and work cooperatively with students, staff, community members, and other employees. Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to perform physical work, including lifting up to 80 pounds. Demonstrated cleaning, organizational, and basic math skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Professional appearance and dependable work habits. Valid driver's license. Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team. Previous custodial, maintenance, or supervisory experience is preferred but not required. Other qualifications may be considered as determined by the School Board. Reports To Maintenance Supervisor Why Join Hawley Public Schools? Position Details Starting Pay:
$24.74 per hour
Schedule:
3:00-11:30 p.m., Monday-Friday during the school year
