Job Description

Summary You will serve as a Custodial Worker (MVO). The primary purpose of the work is custodial and janitorial work such as sweeping, scrubbing and waxing floors, washing windows and walls, dusting and polishing furniture and fixtures. This position is located within the Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Natl Pk Svc, Intermount, Div of Facility Mgmt., West Glacier, Montana. Duties Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: This position performs the full range of custodial work including cleaning and servicing vault toilets, buildings, campgrounds, and emptying trash receptacles. This position is required to operate a government vehicle to perform assigned work and may provide general labor assistance to others in the maintenance of buildings, grounds, roads, trails, etc. These are uniformed positions and must be able to respond to visitors politely. Requirements Conditions of employment Must provide proof of U.S. citizenship. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. Direct Deposit participation required. Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probation period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated. This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. In determining if your employment advances the public interest, the agency will consider: your performance and conduct; the needs and interests of the agency; whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service. Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary or trial period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized. In the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period, such appointments are terminated. Physical Demands:
The work performed requires moderately heavy physical effort and involves lifting and moving objects over 40 pounds and occasionally objects weighing over 23 kilograms (50 pounds). Custodial workers must move and control heavy equipment, carry and set up ladders and scaffolding, and work from ladders and scaffolds. Grade 2 custodial workers must move and control heavy equipment, carry and set up ladders and scaffolding, and work from ladders and scaffolds. Frequently, they must lift and move objects weighing about 18 kilograms (40 pounds), and occasionally objects weighing over 23 kilograms (50 pounds).
Working Conditions:
Usually works indoors in areas, which normally have adequate, heat, light, and ventilation. The incumbent is exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc. Care is required to avoid serious injuries when working on ladders and scaffolds. Grade 2 Custodial Workers usually work indoors, in areas which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation.
