Overview The West Canada Valley Central School District, located at 5447 State Route 28 in Newport, NY, is accepting applications for a full-time, 12-month, Custodian (2:30 pm to 11:00 pm.). This position offers a night differential, paid holidays, vacation, sick and personal time, medical and dental insurance, CSEA Gold Plan vision coverage, and New York State retirement benefits. The work hours for the summer months (July and August) will be 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to maintaining cleanliness and safety in our facilities. This role is essential for ensuring a welcoming environment for both employees and visitors. The Custodian will be responsible for performing various cleaning and maintenance tasks, contributing to the overall upkeep of the premises. Responsibilities Perform routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and vacuuming floors. Maintain cleanliness in restrooms, break rooms, and common areas. Conduct floor care activities such as buffing and waxing as needed. Handle waste disposal and recycling efforts efficiently. Assist with minor maintenance tasks and report any significant repairs needed to management. Ensure that cleaning supplies are stocked and properly stored. Follow safety protocols while using cleaning chemicals and equipment. Provide porter services as required, including moving furniture or equipment for events or maintenance activities. Qualifications Previous janitorial or custodial experience preferred but not required. Familiarity with commercial cleaning practices and industrial cleaning standards is a plus. Knowledge of floor care techniques, including buffing and waxing, is advantageous. Experience in facilities maintenance or residential painting is beneficial. Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality work. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Good communication skills and a positive attitude towards work responsibilities.
