Job Title Custodian - San Benito CISD Job Summary The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary learning environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position performs routine cleaning and maintenance of classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, cafeterias, and other district facilities while ensuring compliance with district safety and cleanliness standards. Custodians may also assist with event setup, minor maintenance tasks, and other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Primary Responsibilities:

Clean classrooms, offices, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, and common areas. Sweep, mop, vacuum, strip, wax, and buff floors. Empty trash receptacles and dispose of waste properly. Clean and sanitize restrooms; replenish paper products and soap supplies. Dust furniture, fixtures, windows, and other surfaces. Assist with setting up and taking down tables, chairs, and equipment for school events. Report maintenance or safety concerns to the appropriate supervisor. Ensure buildings are secure by locking doors and windows as assigned. Operate custodial equipment and cleaning tools safely. Follow district safety procedures and maintain a professional work environment. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous custodial or cleaning experience is preferred but not required. Ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds or more. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.

Work Environment:

Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, lifting, and reaching. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, noise, and varying temperatures. May be required to work evenings, weekends, or special events as needed.
