Open Until Filled A School Ready for Tomorrow When students and staff arrive each morning, the condition of the building shapes how the day begins. The Evening Custodian prepares Lakeside Middle School for that return. Classrooms are reset, shared spaces are cared for, and the building is secured before the evening ends. This position works independently while remaining connected to the people who use and care for the school. Staff rely on the custodian's judgment when a space needs attention or an evening activity changes the plan. The work brings a steady sense of order to the building and helps make LMS a place where people feel comfortable showing up each day. Terms of Employment and Salary The hourly rate range for the position is: Min. $20.05 - Max. $26.16. Salary placement will be at Step 1 of the Nine Mile Classified Public Employees Association Collective Bargaining Agreement unless documentation of experience is received per the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The Collective Bargaining Agreement and Salary Schedules can be found on the For Employees page of the Nine Mile Falls School District website at 9mile.org. Nine Mile Falls policies and Procedures can be accessed online at 9mile.org under the Our District page. Each employee shall accumulate up to twelve (12) days of sick leave per year. An employee employed less than a full work year shall be entitled to a proportionate part of the sick leave allowance. (

Example:

An employee working 10 months will receive 10 days of sick leave.) A maximum of three (3) Annual Leave days is provided for all employees based on the employee's scheduled employment hours per day to be used for an absence during work hours, or to be accumulated for the purpose of cash out, as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Employees anticipated to work 630 hours or more per year will be eligible for Benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB). Standard benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, and Long-Term Disability. Positions anticipated to work 70 hours or more per month for at least 5 months over a 12-month period are eligible for Retirement through the Washington State Department of Retirement Services.

Work Schedule:

8 Hrs per day, 2 PM to 10:30 PM. Pursuant to the 2026/27 School Calendar During school breaks or other non-student periods, the daily start and end times may be adjusted based on operational needs. An alternate summer schedule may include four 10-hour workdays when established by the District.

Lakeside Middle School Nature and Scope of Job The Evening Custodian cleans and cares for Lakeside Middle School following the student day. This position coordinates with the daytime custodian and building administration while responding to evening building needs. The custodian also prepares spaces for school activities and secures the facility at the end of the shift.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent, if the District has determined this education is necessary for the position. Ability to follow written instructions, product labels and established safety procedures. Ability to use email and District work-order or communication systems. Ability to organize assigned work and complete routine responsibilities independently. Ability to communicate respectfully with staff, students and community members. Ability to recognize building concerns and determine when assistance is needed. Ability to safely use custodial equipment after training. Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Desired Qualifications Previous custodial, housekeeping or facilities experience. Experience using commercial cleaning equipment. Experience completing minor building maintenance. Primary Job Functions Maintain regular and punctual attendance. Complete daily cleaning and sanitizing throughout the school building. Sweep, vacuum, and mop floors as needed. Dust surfaces and wash furniture, walls, or fixtures. Clean windows and apply floor-care products. Collect garbage, clean waste containers and operate assigned custodial equipment. Move furniture or equipment safely when cleaning rooms or preparing spaces for use. Remove snow from assigned walkways or steps. Apply de-icing materials to hard-surface areas as needed. Follow the direction of the principal or maintenance supervisor. Organize daily responsibilities and complete assigned work independently. Help plan custodial schedules and coordinate work based on building needs. Secure classrooms and other designated areas at the end of the shift. Complete established closing procedures for the building, including exterior areas and the parking lot. Set up spaces for schoolwide activities or facility use, including board meetings and events held in the gym. Return spaces to their regular arrangement afterward. Provide student supervision at the end of the school day when requested by the principal or supervisor. Communicate with staff and students regarding building needs. Maintain regular communication with the Maintenance Department. Work with other custodial and maintenance employees to complete summer cleaning or facility projects throughout the District. Provide direction and assistance to groups using Nine Mile Falls School District facilities for extracurricular activities or other approved events. Complete general maintenance and minor repairs within the employee's training and assigned responsibilities. Report work requiring specialized repair or additional assistance. Maintain courteous and helpful interactions with students, staff and community members using District facilities. Identify building safety concerns. Address concerns within the employee's assigned responsibilities or promptly report them to the appropriate supervisor. Plan and organize cleaning during non-school hours based on the needs of a larger school facility. Adjust the order of assigned work when evening activities affect access to spaces. Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor. When additional duties are assigned, workload priorities will be adjusted within the employee's scheduled hours. Environmental Demands This position regularly involves standing or walking for extended periods. Work may require bending, kneeling or reaching. The employee may climb ladders and move furniture or supplies. The position requires the ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. Work may involve exposure to cleaning products, dust or changing outdoor weather conditions. Appropriate training and protective equipment will be provided for assigned tasks.
