Limited Term Head Lifeguard Salary $18.00 Hourly Location 225 Newburyport Avenue, Altamonte Springs, FL Job Type Limited Term Job Number 202600084 Department Leisure Services Division Recreation Opening Date 08/14/2026 FLSA Non-Exempt Description Benefits Questions Position Overview Assist with the execution and supervision of the Recreation Division's aquatics programs, events and daily pool operations. Ensures the safety of all patrons utilizing aquatic facilities while maintaining a professional environment and exercising appropriate leadership and authority. Responsibilities include direct interaction with children, adults, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. Position Functions Provide day-to-day leadership and oversight of lifeguard staff during assigned shifts. Serve as the primary point of contact for operational issues when supervisory staff are unavailable. Prepare and maintain daily staff logs, attendance records, incident reports, training documentation, and other operational records as assigned. Develop, implement, and monitor lifeguard rotation schedules. Administer and document swim assessments and camp swim tests. Monitor and document completion of required lifeguard skill assessments and training requirements. Assist with staff onboarding, training, and performance feedback. Respond to and document patron concerns, incidents, and emergencies. Ensure compliance with departmental policies, safety procedures, and emergency action plans. Verify completion of opening, operational, and closing facility procedures. Carry out instructions promptly and efficiently. Monitor pool users and enforce pool rules. Perform life saving techniques, as needed (CPR, AED, & First Aid). Communicate information regarding aquatic activities to pool users. Lead daily aquatic facility maintenance operations by ensuring the cleanliness, appearance, and safe condition of the pool and surrounding areas. Perform and oversee routine maintenance duties, including brushing pool walls and floors, vacuuming, disinfecting high-touch surfaces, scrubbing decks, cleaning restrooms and locker rooms, removing debris, emptying trash receptacles, and completing other basic facility maintenance tasks necessary to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. Provide ideas and suggestions for aquatic activities. Set up/break down aquatics' equipment. Maintain aquatics equipment and facilities, as assigned. Assists with monitoring and maintaining pool filtration, heating, and water chemistry systems under the direct oversight of Certified Pool Operator (CPO) staff. Maintain a professional image to the public at all times. Communicate effectively and demonstrate a professional demeanor to City staff and the public at all times. Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent required. Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age. Valid American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid and Lifeguarding Certification. Minimum one (1) season of lifeguarding experience. Able to work outdoors, weekends, nights and holidays. Ability to lead and supervise in a group setting.

PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Previous experience as a Head Lifeguard, Lifeguard Instructor, Swim Instructor, or Aquatics Supervisor. College graduate or currently enrolled in college. Experience with pool maintenance, water chemistry testing, and facility operations.
