City of Bonita Springs, Florida - Recreation Department

Employment Opportunity through KeyStaff, Inc.

$18-$20 per hour DOE

The City of Bonita Springs Recreation Department is seeking a dependable, safety-conscious, and service-oriented Lifeguard to join its recreation team. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who enjoys working with the public, promoting water safety, and helping create a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable environment for residents and visitors.

.

As a Lifeguard, you will play an essential role in protecting swimmers and maintaining a safe aquatic environment. The ideal candidate will be attentive, responsible, professional, physically capable of performing lifeguarding duties, and comfortable responding quickly and appropriately to emergencies.

.

Position Responsibilities:

Monitor swimming pools and designated aquatic areas continuously to ensure the safety of all patrons.

Enforce all established pool rules, regulations, policies, and safety procedures.

Maintain constant awareness of swimmers and identify potentially dangerous situations before they become emergencies.

Respond promptly and appropriately to aquatic emergencies, injuries, accidents, and other safety concerns.

Perform water rescues and provide appropriate first aid, CPR, and emergency assistance when necessary.

Activate emergency procedures and notify appropriate personnel when additional assistance is required.

Maintain accurate records of accidents, incidents, rescues, injuries, and other required activities.

Inspect the pool and surrounding areas for potential hazards and report unsafe conditions promptly.

Assist with maintaining a clean, orderly, and safe pool deck and surrounding recreation areas.

Provide courteous and professional customer service to residents, guests, families, and visitors.

Answer questions and provide information regarding pool rules, schedules, programs, and facility procedures.

Assist with opening and closing procedures as assigned.

Maintain professional communication with supervisors, coworkers, facility staff, and members of the public.

Participate in required staff meetings, training, safety drills, and continuing education.

Follow all City of Bonita Springs Recreation Department policies and procedures.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Safety & Emergency Responsibilities:

Safety is the primary responsibility of this position. The Lifeguard must remain alert and prepared to respond immediately to an emergency.

Responsibilities may include:

Performing emergency water rescues.

Providing CPR and first aid within the scope of current certification.

Responding to suspected drowning incidents and other aquatic emergencies.

Assisting injured or distressed patrons.

Following established emergency action plans.

Communicating effectively with emergency responders and facility personnel.

Completing required incident and accident documentation.

Maintaining a professional and calm demeanor during emergency situations.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess:

Current Lifeguard certification from a recognized lifeguarding organization.

National Pool and Waterpark Lifeguard Training Program (NPWLTP) must be completed within a month of starting.

Current CPR/AED certification.

Current First Aid certification, as required by the facility or applicable certification standards.

Strong swimming ability and the physical capability to perform water rescues.

Ability to remain alert and attentive for extended periods.

Ability to recognize and respond quickly to safety hazards and emergency situations.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work effectively with children, adults, families, coworkers, and the general public.

Professional appearance and positive attitude.

Dependability and a strong sense of responsibility.

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a recreation team.

Prior lifeguarding, aquatic facility, recreation, or customer-service experience is preferred but may not be required for candidates who possess the necessary certifications and qualifications.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding duties associated with aquatic safety and emergency response, including:

Swimming and performing water rescues.

Entering and exiting the pool quickly when necessary.

Standing, walking, and remaining alert for extended periods.

Lifting, carrying, or assisting individuals in emergency situations.

Performing CPR and first aid.

Responding quickly to emergency situations.

Working outdoors and/or in varying weather conditions as applicable to the facility.

Candidates must be physically capable of safely performing the essential functions of the position.

Work Environment:

Lifeguards work in an active recreation and aquatic environment and interact regularly with members of the public.

The position may involve:

Indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities.

Exposure to sun, heat, humidity, and varying weather conditions.

Exposure to pool chemicals and wet surfaces.

Working around children, families, and large groups.

Variable schedules, including weekends, holidays, mornings, evenings, or special events as operational needs require.

Employment is contingent upon successfully completing all applicable pre-employment requirements, which may include:

Background screening.

Drug screening.

Verification of required certifications.

Employment eligibility verification.
