2989938251-2 Apply for this job now Job Description The YMCA is seeking a Head Lifeguard to lead safe, welcoming aquatic experiences for all ages. This role supervises lifeguards, monitors pools, responds to emergencies, and enforces safety and risk management standards. The Head Lifeguard coordinates in service trainings, supports scheduling, and mentors staff while modeling the Y's values of respect, inclusion, and community. Ideal candidates bring strong aquatic skills, leadership ability, and a commitment to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in a mission driven nonprofit environment. Responsibilities Supervise and lead lifeguard team to ensure safe, welcoming aquatic environments for all YMCA members and guests Actively monitor pools and deck areas, enforcing safety rules and responding quickly to emergencies Provide rescue, first aid, and CPR care as needed, accurately documenting all incidents Develop, lead, and participate in regular in service trainings, drills, and performance evaluations for guards Assist with scheduling, daily shift coverage, and coordination of aquatic programs and special events Conduct pool and facility safety checks, including equipment, water conditions, and cleanliness standards Educate members on safe swimming practices and promote YMCA programs that support health and inclusion Collaborate with aquatics leadership to update policies, risk management procedures, and emergency action plans Support onboarding and mentoring of new lifeguards, modeling YMCA values and positive customer service Communicate effectively with members, parents, and staff regarding policies, concerns, and incidents Required Skills Lifeguarding and surveillance techniques Water rescue skills CPR and First Aid Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use Emergency response and incident management Aquatic safety and risk management Staff supervision and team leadership Pool rules enforcement and conflict de escalation Basic scheduling and shift coordination Customer service and member communication
