JOB DESCRIPTION

A standby bus monitor shares responsibility with the driver for the care and safety of students being transported by bus to and from school. A bus monitor is responsible for being at work on time every day.

EQUIPMENT USED

A wide variety of adaptive equipment is used to accommodate special needs students to include wheel chairs, wheel chair lifts, fire blanket, safety vests, car seats, safety equipment (flares, reflective signs, seat belt cutter), fire extinguisher, radio, etc. It is necessary for Standby Bus Monitors to be familiar with the design and operating procedures of this special equipment, as well as, knowing how to conduct equipment inspections and make simple "field adjustments" during breakdowns to include wheelchairs, wheelchair lifts. RESPONSIBILITIES

Check in with Operations Specialists before each run for messages. Responsible for the safe transportation of students to and from school. Assist students in loading and unloading. Adjust to different assignments daily. Adjust to different student population daily. Comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) to assure student records, behavior and readership confidentiality. Maintain accurate time checks and student counts as required. Monitor on bas extracurricular activities as needed. Maintain appropriate student management environment, documenting and reporting inappropriate and unacceptable behavior to appropriate administrators on the District's Discipline Referral Form. Recognize and report evidence of abuse and neglect. Communicate with the schools, public, and students in such a manner as to encourage their cooperation and respect. Use First Aide/Bio-Kit and may be exposed to bodily fluids and other contagions required. Provide emergency assistance to special needs students as needed. Identify by name all of the students who ride the bus. Assist in maintaining up-to-date seating charts for all assigned runs. Assisting the Driver with route directions and student management. Demonstrate bus evacuation to students on bus as needed. Report all accidents, vehicle damage, and student injuries, and complete required reports as needed. Be aware of all student's disabilities and special needs if needed. Any medical problems experienced by the students while being transported, must be reported to the campus nurse and your Supervisor. Followed up with a written report. Physically access and operate all emergency equipment and emergency exits, including front, rear, and side emergency doors, roof hatches, and emergency windows. Assist passengers regardless of location in the bus. Evacuate the bus from any emergency exit safely and in a timely manner. Must pass randomly administered drug and alcohol tests (a refusal for drug and or alcohol test will be considered an automatic positive). Regular attendance. Other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Education/Certification:

Acceptable motor vehicle record

Ability to operate safety equipment and adaptive equipment on district buses in a safe and effective manner Capable of assessing situations in emergencies quickly and reacting with necessary measures for the protection and well-being of all CISD children Ability to effectively communicate with all CISD students, parents and school personnel Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English Ability to manage students in a safe and appropriate transportation environment Be able to maintain confidentiality of all records Ability to communicate effectively orally and in written form with all levels of management both internal and external Ability to work well with all children and young adults
