Available Help for . A School Bus Aide is a support role in school transportation, working under the supervision of a bus driver to ensure the safe and orderly transport of students to and from school. Is a vital role in student transportation, combining safety oversight, behavior management, and support for students with special needs, all while maintaining a professional and safe environment for everyone on board.
Responsibilities Student Safety & Supervision:
Assist in securing seatbelts, harnesses, and other safety equipment; maintain order on the bus to minimize driver distraction and create a safe environment.
Behavior Management:
Monitor and guide student behavior; intervene if misbehavior or unsafe conduct occurs
Special Needs Support:
Help students with disabilities, mobility aids, or medical equipment; follow their health plans and assist with boarding/disembarking.
Incident Reporting:
Report injuries, accidents, or incidents to the driver and appropriate school personnel promptly
Route & Documentation:
Complete routing lists and transportation forms to communicate bus stop sequences
Cleanliness & Maintenance:
Assist in keeping the bus clean and in good condition
Communication:
Interact professionally with students, parents, guardians, and school staff; maintain confidentiality of student information
Required Qualifications Education:
High school diploma or GED equivalent
Skills:
Ability to work independently with good judgment; operate safety equipment; communicate effectively (verbal and written); demonstrate patience, empathy, and professionalism
Physical Requirements:
Frequent walking, stooping, bending, pushing/pulling; may work outdoors in extreme temperatures; exposure to vehicles and moving part
Knowledge:
Understanding of emergency procedures, first aid, and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act Preferred Skills Experience with special needs students.
Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
Flexibility to adapt to changing situations Reliable and Willing to work. Work Environment Works on school bus routes, both inside and outside, in various weather conditions.
