GENERAL PURPOSE
This position is paraprofessional recreational work in planning and organizing recreation program(s).
MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as liaison between schools in area and volunteers and recreation facility users as well as liaison between Recreation Director and volunteers. Assists with registration for various sports. Attends organizations' meetings for the City's programs concerns, as needed. Monitors the safety of all youth and adults in the programs and safety of facilities used. Checks to determine sports facilities and equipment are maintained and protected. Submits work orders as required for repair of facilities. Assists with concessions. Coordinates activities for senior citizens. Directs summer/spring break camps, creates activities for same, and supervises counselors. Monitors and cleans gym. Coaches. Keeps scoreboard during sports events. Oversees community service workers. Removes trash from facilities.
Assists volunteer groups in:
scheduling games, booster clubs, uniforms, equipment, selection of teams, and obtaining donations. Works with volunteers to secure scholarship money from the community or county for eligible families and children. Monitors participation of children in and out of the City. Maintains a copy of schedules, rosters of players, parents' addresses, phone numbers, insurance coverage, etc. Maintains a file on birth certificates and daily activity reports. Promotes recruitment of volunteers. Assists in scheduling fields. Performs other related duties as required/assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. One (1) year of recreation experience working with youth. Valid Florida Driver's License required. A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of various recreational activities and programs. Knowledge programs and activities. Ability to meet the public and volunteers. Ability to plan, organize and carry out daily and special programs. Organizational and safety skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Works inside and outside possibly in inclement conditions for limited periods of time. Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction). Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid). Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Ability to walk on indoor and outdoor terrain.
