Evenings and weekends, with hours varying by program and season Position Summary The Youth Sports Assistant supports the planning and delivery of safe, organized, and enjoyable sports programs for children and families at the Paris-Bourbon County YMCA. This position helps create a positive environment in which every participant feels welcomed, encouraged, and valued. The ideal candidate is dependable, energetic, and passionate about working with young people. The Youth Sports Assistant models good sportsmanship, supports coaches and officials, and helps participants develop athletic skills, confidence, teamwork, and character. Essential Responsibilities Assist with practices, games, clinics, camps, and other youth sports activities. Set up and put away equipment, scoreboards, seating, and program materials. Welcome participants and families and help answer basic program questions. Support coaches and officials during practices and games. Provide age-appropriate instruction and encouragement to participants. Promote teamwork, respect, responsibility, honesty, caring, and good sportsmanship. Monitor activities to help maintain a safe and positive environment. Enforce YMCA rules, program guidelines, and safety procedures consistently. Assist with attendance, team rosters, equipment distribution, and other program records. Communicate concerns, injuries, incidents, or behavioral issues promptly to the Youth Sports Director. Help maintain clean, organized, and safe playing areas and equipment. Respond appropriately to emergencies and complete required incident documentation. Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and special YMCA events as requested. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Must meet the YMCA's minimum age requirement for employment. Previous experience participating in, coaching, officiating, or assisting with youth sports is preferred. Experience working with children and families is preferred. Basic knowledge of common sports rules and practices is helpful. Strong communication, teamwork, and customer-service skills. Ability to be patient, encouraging, fair, and respectful with participants of different ages and abilities. Dependable and able to arrive on time for scheduled programs. Ability to work evenings and weekends. CPR, First Aid, and AED certification is preferred or must be obtained within the timeframe established by the YMCA. Successful completion of required background checks and child-abuse-prevention training. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and move for extended periods. Ability to demonstrate basic sports skills and actively participate in program activities. Ability to lift and carry sports equipment weighing up to 30 pounds. Ability to work indoors or outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to respond quickly and appropriately during emergencies.
