Traders Co. is a coffee-to-cocktail eatery in downtown Pequot Lakes, where locals and visitors come to gather, relax, socialize, work, and create. Craft coffee and breakfast in the morning, lunch through the afternoon, cocktails and shareable plates as the day winds down. It has become one of the genuine gathering places in the Brainerd Lakes Area, and we intend to keep it that way while continuing to grow. We are looking for an Operating Partner to lead the business day to day. Ownership will stay involved in the brand, creative direction, and long-term strategy, while the operation, the team, and the financial performance of the restaurant will belong to you. The Position As Operating Partner, you are responsible for the whole of it: the people, the systems, the profitability, and the experience our guests have every time they walk through the door. You will begin by getting to know the business alongside ownership, including the brand, the team, the menu, the numbers, and the way we operate today. From there the business is yours to lead, and we mean that to include growing it. We would like to see this concept reach further than it currently does, and we are interested in a leader who has ideas about extending our hours, our programming, and our revenue, and who can make the case for those ideas and then execute them. Responsibilities Team Recruit, hire, onboard, develop, and when necessary let go of staff across the front and back of house Build a group of shift leaders capable of running a service on their own Set schedules, wages, and staffing levels within the approved labor budget Handle performance, attendance, conflict, and workplace expectations Create job descriptions, training standards, and paths for people to advance Operations Run daily execution across the cafe, the kitchen, and the bar Build and maintain operating procedures, checklists, prep systems, and training materials Keep the front and back of house working well together Maintain service quality, cleanliness, food safety, and regulatory compliance Resolve everyday team, vendor, and guest issues without needing ownership involved Menu and Guest Experience Evaluate how the menu is performing on consistency, complexity, pricing, and margin Adjust items, recipes, pricing, and service procedures within our brand and financial guidelines Lead seasonal launches, events, and community programming Hold the standard across coffee, food, cocktails, and hospitality Respond to guest feedback directly and promptly Financial Performance Manage labor, cost of goods, waste, and controllable expenses against budget Review weekly sales, labor, and cost reporting, and act on what it tells you Build reliable inventory, ordering, receiving, and cost control systems Give ownership clear, concise reporting on how the business is performing Take ownership of the results that fall within your control Vendors and Administration Manage vendor relationships, purchasing, and service expectations Approve routine operating expenses within budget Keep licenses, certifications, and required documentation current Coordinate repairs and facility needs within approved spending limits Working With Ownership Your team reports to you. We will make it clear to every employee that you are their point of contact and that questions, concerns, and day-to-day communication run through you. If someone brings us something routine, we will send them back to you. The only things we take on ourselves are matters of safety, legal exposure, or a concern involving you directly. Everything else comes back to you. What ownership brings is business leadership and structure, accounting, marketing and branding, and years of customer service across the group. Running a restaurant day to day is not on that list, which is why this role exists. Bring us in early on anything affecting the brand, the guest experience, or where the business is headed. The rest is yours to move on without checking first. Ownership approval is required for capital purchases above an agreed threshold, spending outside the approved budget, changes to the service model, changes to the concept or brand, and any legal, lease, debt, or ownership matter. Everything else is yours to decide. Compensation Base salary of $70,000 per year. We also cover cellphone reimbursement and provide a credit toward a health care plan of your choosing. There is no buy-in, no capital contribution, and no debt or personal liability at any point. You earn it by performing. Who We Are Looking For Several years leading a restaurant, cafe, bar, or comparable hospitality operation A real command of labor, cost of goods, and margin, with results you can speak to A track record of hiring, developing, and keeping both hourly staff and managers Comfort in both the front and the back of the house The judgment to change an established business without taking apart what already works This is a hands-on role, particularly through the transition, and it will ask for your presence during peak season, weekends, and holidays.
