Full-Time Pay:
$55,000-$75,000 per year (Based on Experience) Join the Leadership Team at Rush Hour NJ Rush Hour NJ is an exciting new restaurant, sports bar, billiards hall, and entertainment venue opening in Sayreville, NJ. Our kitchen is built around elevated American comfort food, chef-inspired entrées, handcrafted burgers, wings, flatbreads, sandwiches, seafood, pasta, and private event catering. We're seeking an experienced Sous Chef who is ready to take the next step in their culinary career. This is a leadership position for someone who enjoys cooking, mentoring others, and helping manage a fast-paced kitchen while maintaining the highest standards of food quality and execution. Position Summary The Sous Chef is the senior culinary leader on the floor and works directly with the General Manager to oversee daily kitchen operations. This role is a step above a Line Cook and combines hands-on cooking with leadership responsibilities. The ideal candidate is someone who leads by example, maintains high standards, thrives in a high-volume environment, and is ready to help train and develop the next generation of cooks. Key ResponsibilitiesCulinary Leadership Lead kitchen operations during assigned shifts Supervise and support line cooks, prep cooks, and dishwashers Coach and train kitchen staff on recipes, techniques, and standards Ensure consistency in food quality, presentation, and portioning Expedite orders during peak service while maintaining ticket times Step into any station when needed Food Quality & Execution Prepare menu items according to company recipes and standards Inspect completed dishes before they leave the kitchen Maintain proper cooking temperatures and food safety procedures Ensure every guest receives a high-quality dining experience Kitchen Operations Assist with daily prep planning and production Help manage inventory and communicate product needs Receive and properly store deliveries Maintain organized and fully stocked kitchen stations Assist with opening and closing procedures Help reduce waste and control food costs Team Development Train new kitchen employees Foster teamwork and professionalism Maintain a positive, respectful work environment Hold team members accountable to kitchen standards Sanitation & Safety Ensure compliance with health department regulations Maintain a clean and organized kitchen Enforce food handling and sanitation procedures Assist in maintaining equipment and reporting maintenance issues Menu Experience Preferred Experience preparing items such as: Wings and shareable appetizers Smash burgers Sandwiches and wraps Flatbreads Salads Chicken Parmesan Chicken Marsala Chicken Francese Beer-Braised Short Rib Bourbon Pork Chop Blackened Salmon Fish & Chips Shrimp Scampi Pasta dishes Scratch sauces Catering and banquet production Qualifications Minimum 3 years of experience in a full-service restaurant kitchen At least 1 year in a leadership role such as Lead Line Cook, Kitchen Supervisor, or Sous Chef Experience working grill, sauté, fry, and pantry stations Strong knife skills and food preparation techniques Ability to manage multiple priorities during high-volume service Excellent communication and leadership skills Working knowledge of food cost, inventory, and kitchen organization ServSafe Certification preferred Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who: Leads by example and isn't afraid to jump on the line Holds themselves and others to a high standard Communicates clearly and professionally Stays calm under pressure Takes pride in consistency and attention to detail Is dependable, organized, and motivated Wants to grow into a Kitchen Manager or Executive Chef role as the company expands Why Join Rush Hour NJ?
