Pneuma | Westwood, New Jersey Full-Time | Opening Leadership Position Pneuma is an all-day café, restaurant, and market opening in Westwood, New Jersey. Our concept brings together specialty coffee, pastries, smoothies, fresh pasta, pizza, prepared foods, salads, sandwiches, gelato, and a curated retail market in a fast-paced, hospitality-driven environment. We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Front of House Manager / Head Barista to lead our front-of-house team and oversee both the guest experience and coffee program at Pneuma. The Role This is a dual leadership role combining front-of-house management with ownership of our coffee and espresso program . The Front of House Manager / Head Barista will be responsible for daily FOH operations, team leadership, training, scheduling, service standards, and guest experience while also setting the standards for coffee preparation, barista training, workflow, and consistency. This is a highly hands-on position. We are looking for someone who wants to be on the floor and behind the bar, working alongside the team and leading by example. ResponsibilitiesFront of House Leadership Lead daily front-of-house operations and service. Recruit, train, schedule, and manage FOH employees. Establish and maintain excellent hospitality and service standards. Manage opening and closing procedures. Oversee cashiers, counter service, food runners, bussers, baristas, and other FOH positions. Coordinate closely with the kitchen and ownership. Manage service flow during high-volume periods. Handle guest questions, concerns, and service recovery professionally. Maintain exceptional cleanliness and organization throughout all guest-facing areas. Manage employee breaks, coverage, call-outs, and shift changes. Help control FOH labor through effective scheduling and staffing. Train the team on menu knowledge, ingredients, allergens, and guest communication. Maintain FOH inventory, supplies, and proper pars. Head Barista & Coffee Program Lead Pneuma's specialty coffee and espresso program. Establish recipes and standards for espresso, coffee, and specialty beverages. Dial in espresso and maintain consistency throughout the day. Train and develop baristas on espresso preparation, milk steaming, drink construction, workflow, and equipment care. Maintain quality and consistency across every beverage served. Oversee opening, closing, and cleaning procedures for the coffee bar. Maintain espresso machines, grinders, brewers, and other coffee equipment according to proper cleaning and maintenance schedules. Manage coffee, milk, syrups, cups, and other beverage inventory and pars. Work with ownership on seasonal beverages and continued development of the beverage program. Maintain an efficient bar workflow during high-volume periods. Set the standard for speed, cleanliness, hospitality, and attention to detail behind the bar. What We're Looking For Previous specialty coffee experience and restaurant, café, or hospitality leadership experience are strongly preferred. The ideal candidate has experience as a Head Barista, Café Manager, FOH Manager, Assistant General Manager, or similar leadership position . Most importantly, we're looking for someone who: Has strong knowledge of espresso and specialty coffee. Is confident dialing in espresso and troubleshooting quality issues. Has excellent milk steaming and beverage preparation skills. Can effectively train and develop baristas. Is naturally hospitable and genuinely enjoys working with guests. Is an excellent communicator and team leader. Leads from the floor and behind the bar rather than from the sidelines. Is highly organized and able to manage multiple areas at once. Remains calm and solutions-oriented during busy service. Understands scheduling, labor management, and restaurant operations. Has extremely high standards for cleanliness and organization. Takes ownership of problems and follows through. Understands the importance of speed and efficiency without sacrificing quality or hospitality. What You Can Expect Coffee will be a major part of Pneuma's all-day experience, and we are investing in a serious coffee program with high-quality equipment, ingredients, and training. The Front of House Manager / Head Barista will have significant responsibility for defining both how Pneuma's coffee tastes and how Pneuma's hospitality feels. As an opening leader, you will have the opportunity to help establish our coffee standards, design bar workflows, train the original barista and FOH teams, establish our service culture, and continue developing the program after opening.
