512 S. First St., Albemarle, NC 28001 Position Summary Plan menus using donated items as well as stored food items Prepare, cook, and manage the daily distribution of food to people in the community by providing a nutritious noon-time meal Primary Responsibilities Kitchen Operation Oversee daily meal preparation, cooking, packaging, and service. Ensure meals are prepared according to food safety standards Maintain the cleanliness and organization of kitchen facilities, equipment, and storage areas Monitor food quality and portion control 2. Inventory and Food Management Receive, inspect, and store food donations and purchased supplies Monitor inventory levels and supply needs Help reduce food waste by practicing proper storage, rotation, and use Maintain accurate inventory and donation records 3. Safety and Compliance Ensure compliance with food safety guidelines Daily Temperature checks of all freezers and refrigerators Conduct routine checks to maintain sanitation standards Report maintenance, safety, or equipment concerns promptly Keep all documentation up to date, including but not limited to temperature charts, donation lists, donation poundage reports, and all USDA records. Assist with implementing emergency and safety procedures 4. Customer and Community Service Interact respectfully and professionally with clients, donors, volunteers, and community partners Assist participants and visitors as needed Maintain an orderly experience for the neighbors who come to share a meal 5. Staff and Volunteer Support Train, schedule, and supervise kitchen staff and volunteers Provide guidance and support to volunteers during food preparation and service activities Promote teamwork and a positive work environment Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities High school diploma Ability to read and write legibly Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices Ability to lift 50 pounds and stand for extended periods Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills Preferred Skills Food Safety Certification (ServSafe Manager or equivalent) preferred, or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire date Previous experience in food service, commercial kitchens, shelters, community kitchens, or nonprofit food programs Interest in nonprofit leadership, supervisory, or leadership experience Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, and move throughout the program environments. Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds. Ability to travel between SCCM locations as needed. Ability to attend meetings and occasional community events as needed.
