Up to 20 Hours Per Week | Schedule will vary based on the student's/students' availability.
WEEKLY HOURS AVAILABLE
Students should be prepared to completed an 8-hour training session. Following the completion of the training, students will work approximately 6 hours per week during the 8-week MCC101 course term. Each mentor will be assigned to three, uncombined MCC101 sections and will host a separate one-hour meeting each week for every section. (In-person or Zoom) Because mentors deliver the same weekly meeting content and "week in the life" emails across the three sections, planning and email preparation time will remain the same for each section, and more time will be required to respond to student communications.

Student Mentors help new students feel welcomed, supported, and prepared for college life by sharing their own MCC experience through Canvas communication, weekly meetings with their assigned sections, and a "week in the life of an MCC student" email. Attend and actively participate in a required summer training session (approximately 8 hours) covering mentoring expectations, communication guidelines, campus resources, and MCC101 course content Communicate weekly with students enrolled in assigned MCC101 sections throughout the 8-week course Plan and host a weekly meeting for each assigned section; meetings may be held in person or virtually via Zoom, and the format may vary from week to week (and within the same week) Write and send a weekly "week in the life of an MCC student" email to assigned sections, sharing relatable, practical tips and personal experiences (for example, study strategies, exam preparation, or using campus resources like the Tutoring and Academic Support Center) Respond promptly and professionally to student questions and outreach Serve as a positive, approachable role model who represents MCC's values and supports student belonging and success
