This position is responsible for the day-to-day administration of clergy and conference staff pension and benefit programs, including the HealthFlex health insurance plan and retiree health plan, as well as Conference payroll. Responsibilities include administering benefit programs, managing monthly billing and payments, reporting compensation and clergy appointment or status changes to appropriate benefit providers, preparing payroll, and providing administrative support to the Finance Department. Key Responsibilities Assist the Conference Benefits Officer with the administration of pension and benefit programs of the Wisconsin Conference of The United Methodist Church.
Responsibilities include:
Generating and processing monthly benefit billing. Maintaining automated billing cycles and related records. Responding to benefit-related inquiries from clergy, employees, and local churches. Coordinating retiree pension payments. Processing quarterly life insurance billing. Processing and recording payments and maintaining accurate financial records. Provide assistance and information to local churches regarding clergy healthcare, pension, and compensation, including guidance in understanding and completing compensation forms. Communicate death notifications to Wespath and coordinate with families regarding appropriate notifications to the Annual Conference. Process necessary administrative changes with insurance and benefit providers following the death of a participant. Review annual compensation information and ensure accurate and timely entry into Wespath and related billing systems. Prepare and process payroll for Wisconsin Conference employees, including: Entering and reviewing payroll information. Running required month-end and year-end reports. Maintaining payroll software and implementing necessary changes. Ensuring payroll records are accurate and up to date. Maintain I-9 files for clergy new to the Conference and assist with the ongoing maintenance of clergy files related to benefits and employment. Provide administrative support to the Finance Department, including data entry, recordkeeping, reporting, correspondence, and other financial and administrative tasks as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Core Competencies & Qualifications Associate degree in accounting, business administration, human resources, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Four to six years of relevant experience in benefits administration, payroll, accounting, human resources, or a related field. Working knowledge of employee benefits, payroll processes, and related administrative requirements. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex benefit and financial information clearly to clergy, employees, and local church leaders. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Experience with Paychex, Blackbaud, and MissionConnect preferred, with demonstrated ability to learn and effectively use new software systems. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism. Understanding of or experience with the structure and operations of The United Methodist Church is preferred.
