Position Title:

Legal and Title IX Compliance Specialist

Department:

Superintendent

Reports To:

General Counsel

FLSA Status:

Non-Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS

High School diploma

Minimum of five years of executive administrative experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities

Ability to work a flexible schedule (including evening Board meetings) to meet the needs of the district and Board of Trustees

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate's degree

Experience in an educational or legal setting

Experience monitoring budgets and reports

Experience with working systems: Business Plus, PowerSchool, etc

Evidence of advanced technology skills; especially with Google Suite

Ability to demonstrate the capacity for extensive independent decision-making and handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously

Evidence of strong organizational, project management and problem-solving skills

Experience managing Title IX and/or other discrimination claims

Experience reviewing and applying state and federal laws and regulations

Excellent customer service skills and communication skills - both written and verbal

Demonstrated experience working with senior leaders and various stakeholders

Demonstrated experience presenting on complex topics

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must have current government issued identification

Support Staff Salary Schedule (Grade 13)

The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full time employment during the school year. Conditions of employment adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under general supervision, provides varied and complex administrative support requiring knowledge of practices and procedures of the district. Primarily supports Legal Services and human resources and communicates with professional and support staff and the general public as needed. Works closely with the staff of the Superintendent's Office. Works with school and district administrators on the Title IX process. Communicates with parents on Title IX processes and complaints.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One towards increased outcomes for students.

Interacts, communicates, and collaborates with all stakeholders effectively, including district leaders and parents.

Establishes a safe, supportive, positive, and productive working and learning environment.

Operates general office and technology equipment needed for daily activities.

Maintains confidentiality on all district matters, including those matters related to employee and student information and legal operations.

Participates in all professional meetings and training sessions as required.

Requests and maintains materials needed for daily responsibilities and essential functions; Provides for safe storage and proper use of all tools, equipment, and materials, and Title IX records.

Provides administrative support primarily to the district's general counsel, by way of office management, preparing correspondence, clerical duties, taking calls, and assisting with the processing of records requests sent to the district.

Coordinates and monitors the district's Title IX compliance efforts.

Leads and facilitates comprehensive Title IX training for all necessary district professionals to ensure full compliance and role-specific implementation.

Ensures the Title IX investigations are handled timely, appropriately, confidentially, and impartially.

Maintains the filing and calendar for all Title IX matters.

Maintains the calendar and schedule for the district's general counsel.

Supports the human resources department with relevant legal tasks

Monitors the budget and utilizes the district's business software to process budgetary transactions and run reports as needed.

Completes travel requests and reimbursements.

Monitors and communicates necessary information to schools and other offices as required to carry out the duties.

Effectively uses technology devices and software applications for the management of pertinent information and communication.

Maintains confidentiality of records, data, etc.

Performs other related duties as required.

No supervisory responsibility.

ABILITIES

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Lexington County School District One Board policies. Must be able to access reliable transportation.

Personal computer experience required. Strong knowledge of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, electronic file management, the internet, and reporting and presentation software. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to apply knowledge and current research and theory. Ability to organize and implement a flexible work schedule in order to meet reporting deadlines. Ability to self-monitor and manage multiple tasks while working individually and with members of a group. Ability to submit all requested reports and documentation in a timely manner and in accordance with scheduled deadlines. Some extended hours and multiple demands from several people are frequently required of the employee. Computer literacy required. Knowledge of the policies, procedures and activities of the school district which pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, and operations. Advanced knowledge of the principles of office management and organization. Knowledge of and skill in the preparation, maintenance, and submission of various district, state, and federal records and reports necessary for the position. Ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation, and utilization of equipment, materials, and supplies used in daily activities. Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy in exercising duties. Ability to anticipate work to be completed and to complete work without the need for direct supervision. Advanced data entry, mathematical, bookkeeping, word processing, and written/verbal communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student records and information. Ability to interact and communicate in an effective and professional manner with supervisors, coworkers, teachers, students, and the general public. Ability to demonstrate high level application of technology devices in the performance of daily activities.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision. Occasionally the position requires the employee to work irregular or extended hours. Duties of the job require frequent use of a computer monitor and related equipment.

The noise level in the work environment for this position varies. The noise level in this environment is quiet to loud depending upon the activity in the particular part of the day. Job requires the operation of standard office and technology equipment.
