Job Description

Governors State University welcomes qualified candidates to submit their application for the position of Recruiting Specialist. The Recruiting Specialist plays a vital role in advancing the undergraduate recruitment and enrollment goals of Governors State University. This position is responsible for managing a designated recruitment territory, building strong relationships with high schools and community colleges, and guiding prospective students through the admissions process. The Specialist will provide high-quality customer service, execute targeted communication strategies, and support data-driven outreach efforts using the university's CRM systems. This role requires a self-motivated, detail-oriented professional with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a strong understanding of admissions processes, and a commitment to promoting access to higher education. The Recruiting Specialist reports to the Associate Director of Admissions for Recruitment and works collaboratively within a dynamic, student-focused team. 50% Recruitment Recruit high school and community college students within a specific designated territory as assigned by the Associate Director of Admissions. Visit and conduct information sessions for high schools, and community colleges; speak to groups and individual students, meet with community college staff, high school counselors and administrators to promote GovState Work independently to develop and maintain partnerships between the university and local high schools and community systems within the assigned territory. Serve as the point person for oversight of territorial recruitment goals and public relations. Provide support, guidance, and direction to high school students in a variety of situations and environments as it relates to admission requirements and admission status. Maintain current knowledge of financial aid process. Serves as liaison between high schools, community colleges and Governors State University Maintain current knowledge of Governors State University programs and services. 40% Admissions & Communications Provide high-quality customer service to prospective students and their families throughout the admissions lifecycle using the Slate CRM and Colleague systems. Track student progress from prospect to enrollment, ensuring timely follow-up and proactive outreach to encourage forward movement through each stage of the application process. Conduct pre-admissions appointments, respond to inquiries (phone, email, and walk-ins), and maintain regular office hours to support applicants. Lead and support the execution of enrollment communications under the direction of the Associate Director of Admissions. Develop and manage targeted, accurate, and engaging communication sequences to connect with prospective student populations—including traditional undergraduate, transfer, adult learners, and online program candidates. Assist in building and maintaining dashboards and workflows within the Slate CRM to track communication effectiveness. Collaborate with the admissions team to evaluate communications strategies and outcomes; utilize institutional research and partner insights to make data-informed recommendations for recruitment messaging and outreach. 10%--Other Duties Collaborate with Admissions Office leadership and staff to foster a recruitment culture rooted in accountability, innovation, and excellent student service. Support the implementation, testing, and training efforts related to CRM tools and systems. Participate in university events, staff meetings, and professional development activities. Stay current with trends in higher education admissions and enrollment management. Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Other Responsibilities Guidelines:
Adhere to policies, regulations and procedures set forth by the state of Illinois and the University and use professional judgment. Required Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree 2 to 4 (2 - 4) years of experience in Admissions, recruitment, marketing, communications or related field. Excellent written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated experience developing and delivering persuasive presentations to prospective students and community organizations Strong interpersonal skills including ability to maintain collaborative professional relationships with faculty and staff colleagues Ability to manage multiple projects and respond successfully as needed in a time sensitive environment Strong time management and organization skills Willingness and ability to work evenings and weekends for information sessions, college fairs, university events, and other conversion and yield activities.
