Job Description

Summary Objective The Compliance Investigator is responsible for conducting investigations into employee workplace conduct to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local law and LMG personnel policies. This role applies established HR policies and procedures and legal frameworks to assess complaints, determine findings, and support consistent, equitable outcomes. In addition to investigative responsibilities, this position supports training initiatives, and partners with departments to promote a culture of compliance and reduce organizational risk. This class works independently under limited supervision and reports major activities through periodic meetings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Receives, reviews, and assesses complaints from employees and other stakeholders regarding workplace conduct and policy compliance. Conducts investigations into employee conduct concerns, including EEO complaints, harassment, discrimination, ethics and personnel policy-related matters, in accordance with established HR procedures and legal standards. Schedules and conducts structured interviews with complainants, witnesses, and involved parties and gathers and evaluates relevant documentation and evidence. Maintains accurate, organized case files, investigation logs, and documentation in accordance with recordkeeping standards. Evaluates findings using applicable federal, state, and local employment laws, as well as Louisville Metro Government policies and procedures. Prepares clear, thorough, and well-documented investigative reports, including findings and recommended conclusions. Provides timely updates to stakeholders regarding case status, next steps, and expected timelines. Communicates with members of the Jefferson County Attorney's Office to provide information relevant to legal actions and proceedings relating to LMG personnel actions. Identifies opportunities for process improvements and recommends enhancements to policies, procedures, and training to mitigate risk. Plans, organizes, and delivers training or informational sessions related to workplace conduct, compliance requirements, and investigative processes. Serves as a resource to departments, managers, and HR partners by providing guidance on employee relations issues and compliance with applicable laws and policies. Supports compliance-related initiatives, audits, and special projects as assigned. Performs related work as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business or Public Administration, Industrial Relations, Pre-Law or related discipline. Two (2) years of human resources generalist, human resources specialist, employee relations, labor relations, or analytical employment law experience.
EQUIVALENCY
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be substituted.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
