HR GENERALIST - PAYROLL & EMPLOYEE EXPERIENCE

POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking an HR Generalist who wants to build a long-term career in Human Resources and enjoys balancing detail-driven payroll work with meaningful employee support. This role is ideal for a dependable, tech-savvy professional who takes ownership, learns quickly, and treats employees as valued customers.

You will work across payroll, onboarding, benefits, staffing, HR systems, compliance, and employee communications. Because this position handles payroll, benefits, leave, employee records, and sensitive workplace matters, sound judgment and absolute confidentiality are essential.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
Payroll & Timekeeping Process, review, audit, and approve payroll across multiple divisions. Investigate missing punches, PTO, overtime, deductions, transfers, terminations, leave status, and other exceptions; compare registers with prior payrolls and benefit invoices; prepare review communications; maintain supporting documentation; and resolve payroll issues with managers, controllers, and ADP. Onboarding & Offboarding Prepare offer letters, confirm signed documentation, assemble new-hire materials, coordinate orientation, and help employees access ADP, Employee Navigator, Microsoft 365, credentials, benefits enrollment, and required training. Coordinate IT checklists, system access, asset collection, COBRA notifications, and records for transfers, promotions, leaves, and terminations. Benefits & Leave Support benefits enrollment and employee questions; administer HSA, FSA, DCA, COBRA, Health Equity, and vendor updates; review claims, invoices, deductions, and eligibility files; assist with PFML, STD, and other leave processes; support 401(k) communications and transactions; and help reconcile benefit contributions and employer/employee costs. Recruiting & Staffing Maintain job postings, source candidates, coordinate background screening, communicate staffing updates, confirm start dates, and follow up with managers on required hiring, transfer, promotion, leave, and termination documentation. HR Systems & Reporting Maintain accurate information and workflows in ADP, Employee Navigator, Comply Auto, Cinch, Health Equity, and related systems. Review EDI files, training reports, organization charts, staffing reports, and system discrepancies; partner with vendors and internal teams to resolve issues. Employee Service Provide responsive, respectful support to employees and managers on payroll, benefits, leave, and workplace questions. Assist with disciplinary documentation when needed and coordinate employee communications, recognition, birthdays, anniversaries, wellness activities, and other engagement programs. Compliance & Audits Support payroll tax and unemployment updates, workers' compensation and general liability administration, record retention, and required documentation. Participate in 401(k), workers' compensation, benefit deduction, employee file, and I-9 audits while protecting confidential information. HR Documentation & Process improvement Create and maintain pay-plan templates, job descriptions, employee records, logs, and process documentation. Review practices across divisions, analyze vendor and benefit costs, identify discrepancies, and recommend practical improvements that strengthen accuracy and the employee experience.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Required:
hands-on payroll processing and payroll-audit experience, including timecards, PTO, overtime, deductions, employee changes, and issue resolution. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including organizing and reconciling data, formulas, filters, lookups, and identifying discrepancies. Tech-savvy and comfortable learning payroll, HRIS, benefits, training, and collaboration platforms. Team-oriented, hard-working, reliable, organized, and able to manage recurring deadlines with consistent follow-through. Employee-first customer service mindset with clear, professional written and verbal communication. Excellent judgment and discretion when handling payroll, benefits, leave, employee relations, and other confidential matters.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Experience with ADP, Employee Navigator, or similar payroll/HRIS platforms; benefits and leave administration; onboarding and offboarding; HR compliance; and supporting employees across multiple locations or business units. A degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field—or equivalent practical experience—is helpful.
