POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Business Solutions Professional (BSP) serves as a primary connection between GST Michigan Works! and the business community, building trusted employer relationships and understanding workforce needs to connect businesses with solutions that support growth, competitiveness, and long-term success. Using a demand-driven, employer-focused approach, the BSP identifies current and emerging talent needs and coordinates customized workforce solutions through GST Michigan Works! and its education, economic development, industry, and community partners. The BSP serves as a knowledgeable resource and strategic workforce partner, exercising sound judgment and initiative to identify needs, connect resources, and address workforce challenges related to recruitment, training, development, retention, and career pathways. The BSP contributes to GST Michigan Works!' organizational and program goals while representing the organization with professionalism, integrity, responsiveness, and a commitment to exceptional customer service.
DUTIES:
Develop and maintain strong, meaningful relationships with employers throughout the region, serving as a trusted workforce partner and primary point of connection to GST Michigan Works! services, resources, and solutions. Assess employer workforce and talent needs through business visits, consultation, prospecting, outreach, labor market information, and other internal and external sources; identify current and emerging challenges related to recruitment, training, retention, employee development, and workforce competitiveness. Present, promote, and coordinate the full portfolio of GST Michigan Works! business services, tailoring solutions to individual employer needs and connecting businesses with appropriate internal programs, resources, and external partners. Market and coordinate workforce training solutions, including On-the-Job Training (OJT), customized training, incumbent worker training, and other applicable programs, working with appropriate staff, training providers, and contractors to support successful implementation. Provide employers with technical assistance, workforce resources, and labor market information, including support with Pure Michigan Talent Connect and other recruitment, talent development, and workforce tools. Connect employers with qualified talent and workforce resources by collaborating with Employment Services, job seeker Case Managers, training providers, educational institutions, and other partners to support hiring, talent development, and employee retention. Coordinate customized employer recruitment and talent engagement activities, including individual and group interviews, hiring events, job fairs, informational sessions, recruitment events, and other activities based on employer needs. Facilitate collaboration among employers, workforce partners, education and training providers, economic development organizations, and community resources to develop coordinated solutions to workforce challenges and strengthen the regional talent pipeline. Engage employers in sector strategies, industry partnerships, employer collaboratives, and other regional workforce initiatives designed to identify shared talent needs, address skill gaps, strengthen career pathways, and develop employer-driven solutions. Support business attraction, expansion, retention, and talent development efforts by connecting employers with appropriate GST Michigan Works! services, regional resources, and strategic partners. Represent GST Michigan Works! through participation in employer meetings, career fairs, business and community events, exhibits, tours, presentations, workforce initiatives, and other professional engagements. Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of employer activities, services, outcomes, and program requirements. Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, responsiveness, sound judgment, and respect in all interactions with employers, job seekers, coworkers, community partners, and other stakeholders; collaborate effectively across the GST Michigan Works! system and maintain accountability for assigned performance outcomes and customer service standards. Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
Degree in Business or related field preferred. Experience in lieu of degree in the area of human resources, marketing, workforce development/staffing, or employee training is acceptable. Previous experience developing business relationships in a service-based environment preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Demonstrated experience in employer engagement, business relationship development, workforce development, staffing, recruiting, or a related field, with the ability to build and maintain effective professional relationships with businesses and community partners. Familiarity with the GST Michigan Works! region and local business community is preferred. Must possess strong communication, interpersonal, customer service, and public relations skills, with the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers, contractors, board members, community partners, and the general public across diverse backgrounds. Must be able to prepare professional correspondence, reports, and other documents and maintain accurate and timely records. Must demonstrate sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential information; be highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities and projects; and work effectively both independently with limited supervision and collaboratively as part of a team. Working knowledge of workforce development programs, Microsoft Office products, and internet-based systems is required. Preferred candidates should be willing and able to travel throughout the Thumb Area, including Huron, Lapeer, Sanilac, and Tuscola Counties as needed.
