•35.00 per hour, based on experience About the Position We are a growing HVAC and plumbing company looking for an experienced, dependable Full-Charge Bookkeeper & HR Coordinator to take ownership of our day-to-day accounting while helping keep our employee and office operations running smoothly. This is not an entry-level bookkeeping position. We are looking for someone who understands the full accounting cycle, can independently maintain accurate books, complete reconciliations, assist with month-end close, prepare financial reports, and work directly with ownership and our outside CPA. The ideal candidate has worked in a small to mid-sized business where they wore multiple hats and became the person ownership could depend on to keep the financial and administrative side of the business organized. Experience in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, construction, mechanical contracting, or another field-service business is highly preferred. Accounting & Bookkeeping Responsibilities You will take ownership of the company's day-to-day accounting functions, including: Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in QuickBooks Online Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable Process vendor invoices and maintain vendor records Monitor customer balances and assist with collections Reconcile bank and credit card accounts Record and review journal entries Maintain the general ledger Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures Review accounts for accuracy and investigate discrepancies Prepare monthly Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and other financial reports Monitor cash flow and upcoming financial obligations Maintain fixed asset records Coordinate with the company's CPA for tax filings, year-end adjustments, and financial reporting Maintain organized accounting records and supporting documentation Assist ownership with financial information and reporting as needed Payroll, HR & Employee Administration This position will also support the employee side of the business, including: Coordinate payroll processing and review payroll information for accuracy Manage new-hire onboarding paperwork and employee records Maintain confidential personnel files Assist employees with benefits enrollment and general benefit questions Coordinate health insurance, 401(k), and other employee benefit programs Maintain PTO and employee-related records Assist with employee changes, terminations, and required documentation Maintain required employment and compliance records Assist with Michigan Works and apprenticeship-related documentation and reporting Coordinate with outside payroll, benefits, insurance, and HR providers as needed Office & Administrative Responsibilities As part of a growing small business, you will also help keep the back office organized and running efficiently.

Responsibilities may include:

Maintain organized electronic and physical records Manage accounting and HR-related correspondence Assist with insurance, licensing, vendor, and administrative documentation Help develop and maintain internal processes and procedures Track deadlines and ensure required paperwork is completed Provide administrative support to ownership when needed Identify opportunities to improve accounting and office processes

What We're Looking For Required:

3+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience Strong QuickBooks Online experience Experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable Bank and credit card reconciliation experience Understanding of general ledger accounting Experience assisting with month-end close Ability to prepare and understand basic financial statements Strong Microsoft Excel skills Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to handle confidential financial and employee information Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of responsibilities

Highly Preferred:

5+ years of full-charge bookkeeping or accounting experience HVAC, plumbing, construction, electrical, mechanical, or field-service industry experience ServiceTitan or FieldEdge experience Payroll processing experience HR, employee onboarding, or benefits administration experience Experience working directly with business owners and outside CPAs Experience in a small or mid-sized privately owned company Michigan Works or apprenticeship program experience Who Will Be Successful in This Role?
