HR Generalist
Job Description
Employee Care & HR Support - Serve as a primary point of contact for employees regarding benefits, leave programs, payroll-related questions, policies, employment changes, and general HR matters. Provide responsive, professional, and empathetic support while maintaining confidentiality and sound judgment. Manage and support HR escalations, including employee relations matters, coaching, performance concerns, investigations, and terminations, in partnership with the Director of HR. Assist employees and managers in understanding and applying company policies and procedures. Identify recurring employee issues and recommend improvements to HR processes, policies, or communication. Benefits & Leave Administration - Manage day-to-day employee benefits administration, including medical, dental, vision, voluntary benefits, and other company-sponsored programs. Coordinate annual Open Enrollment and manage benefit changes throughout the year. Maintain benefits portals, employee enrollments, qualifying life event changes, and benefit-related communications. Manage COBRA administration and related employee communications. Audit monthly benefit invoices and reconcile enrollment and deduction discrepancies. Administer applicable state leave programs, including Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML), and maintain required registrations and applications. Serve as a resource to employees navigating benefits and leave programs.
HRIS & HR
Data Management - Manage and maintain the company's HRIS (UKG Pro), ensuring employee information and HR data remain accurate and up to date. Maintain HRIS configurations and employee-related transactions, including tax codes, benefit deductions, garnishments, employment status changes, and other system updates. Partner with Payroll and Finance to identify and resolve discrepancies and ensure accurate employee data and payroll-related information Assist with HRIS audits, reporting, system improvements, and implementation of new functionality as needed. Maintain accurate and confidential employee records in accordance with company policies and applicable legal requirements. Employment Compliance & Multi-State HR - Monitor and support compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations across SSI's multi-state workforce. Research and communicate changes to employment, wage and hour, leave, benefits, and other applicable labor requirements. Assist with creating, reviewing, and updating HR policies to reflect legal and regulatory changes. Manage state-specific registrations, filings, reports, and compliance requirements. Maintain awareness of state-specific requirements affecting SSI employees and proactively communicate potential compliance issues to HR leadership. Partner with the Director of HR and external advisors, vendors, and government agencies when specialized compliance guidance is required. Claims & Government Administration - Manage Workers' Compensation claims from initial reporting through resolution, including communication with employees, managers, carriers, and other parties. Process unemployment claims and respond to related government agency communications and requests. Maintain required documentation and ensure timely responses to claims and agency inquiries. Assist with other employment-related government filings, audits, and requests as assigned. Retirement Plan Administration - Support administration of SSI's 401(k) retirement plan, including employee eligibility communications and enrollment support. Assist with ongoing plan audits, employee data reconciliation, and coordination with the plan provider and internal stakeholders. Support annual retirement plan reporting and required filings. HR Team Leadership & Collaboration - Serve as a key operational leader within the HR Department and work collaboratively with SSI's overseas HR, Onboarding, Payroll, and support teams. Promote consistency and accountability in HR processes, communication, and employee service across teams and geographic locations. Provide guidance and support to overseas team members on HR processes, policies, employee matters, and day-to-day questions as appropriate. Help identify gaps or opportunities between U.S. and overseas HR processes and collaborate on solutions. Foster strong communication and teamwork across the HR function. HR Policies, Procedures & Process Improvement - Create, maintain, and update HR policies, procedures, and department Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Ensure HR processes are documented, consistent, and aligned with current legal and operational requirements. Identify opportunities to improve HR workflows, employee communications, systems, and overall service delivery. Partner with the Director of HR to implement process improvements and departmental initiatives. HR Projects & Department Support - Assist the Director of HR with special projects, initiatives, research, audits, and other departmental priorities as they arise. Take ownership of assigned HR projects from planning through completion. Support cross-functional initiatives involving HR, Payroll, Finance, Operations, IT, and other departments. Perform other HR-related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Human Resources.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Education & Experience - Associate degree or higher in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. 2+ years of experience in a Human Resources Generalist, HR Operations, HR Coordinator, or similar role. Experience supporting employees in a multi-state workforce strongly preferred. Experience with benefits administration, HRIS systems, and employment compliance required. Experience with UKG Pro or another enterprise HRIS strongly preferred. SHRM or other HR certification is a plus but not required. Skills & Competencies - Strong working knowledge of federal and state employment, wage and hour, leave, and benefits requirements. Strong employee-service mindset with the ability to balance empathy, professionalism, and compliance. Demonstrated ability to take ownership, exercise initiative, and operate independently while knowing when to escalate matters. Leadership mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively with both U.S.-based and overseas team members. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive employee matters. Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Ability to research unfamiliar HR requirements and confidently identify when additional guidance or escalation is needed. Ability to work collaboratively with employees, managers, leadership, Payroll, Finance, vendors, and external partners. Skills- HRIS, Benefits & 401(k), HR Operations and Employee Relations.
Pay:
$55,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
