About Us At Bartholomew County Humane Society, we are dedicated to providing compassionate care for homeless, abandoned, and neglected animals while helping them find loving forever homes. We are seeking a caring, dependable, and hardworking Animal Care Team Member to join our team and make a meaningful difference in the lives of animals every day. Position Summary The Shelter Animal Care Team Member is responsible for the daily care, health, and well-being of animals in our shelter. This role includes feeding, cleaning, exercising, monitoring animal behavior, and assisting with adoptions and customer service. The ideal candidate is passionate about animal welfare, enjoys a fast-paced environment, and is committed to maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming shelter. Key Responsibilities Provide daily feeding, watering, and basic care for shelter animals. Clean and sanitize animal kennels, cages, and common shelter areas. Monitor animal health and behavior and report concerns to supervisors or veterinary staff. Exercise, enrich, and socialize animals according to shelter protocols. Assist with animal intake, vaccination clinics, and adoption procedures. Ensure animals are housed safely and comfortably. Help maintain accurate animal care and medical records. Assist visitors, adopters, volunteers, and community members in a professional and friendly manner. Follow all safety, sanitation, and animal handling procedures. Support special events, adoption promotions, and fundraising activities as needed. QualificationsRequired High school diploma or equivalent. Genuine passion for animal welfare. Ability to work weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts as needed. Comfortable handling dogs, cats, and other companion animals. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks such as standing, walking, bending, and cleaning for extended periods. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Preferred Previous experience working with animals in a shelter, veterinary clinic, kennel, daycare, or rescue organization. Basic knowledge of animal behavior and handling techniques. Experience with customer service or public interaction. Desired Characteristics Compassionate and patient with animals and people. Dependable, trustworthy, and punctual.
