Job Summary Western Piedmont Community College (WPCC) is seeking qualified, student-focused adjunct instructors to join our Cosmetology program. Adjunct faculty provide high-quality instruction in classroom, laboratory, clinic, and simulated salon learning environments while preparing students for licensure and careers in the cosmetology profession. Under the supervision of the Coordinator, Cosmetology, adjunct instructors teach classroom, laboratory, clinic, hybrid, and/or online courses in accordance with Western Piedmont Community College policies, North Carolina Community College System standards, North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners (NCBCAE) regulations, and established course learning outcomes. Courses may be offered during the day, evening, weekends, or at affiliated instructional sites. Adjunct faculty are expected to:

Facilitate transformative learning by delivering engaging instruction that integrates course and program learning outcomes through lecture, demonstration, laboratory instruction, clinic experiences, and hands-on skill development. Create an engaging, interactive, and inclusive learning environment that promotes professionalism, creativity, technical excellence, and exceptional customer service. Support student success by building positive relationships with students, providing timely and constructive feedback, and responding to individual learning needs throughout the course. Prepare future cosmetology professionals by modeling professionalism, ethical conduct, infection prevention practices, sanitation, safety, and client-centered service. Foster a culture of safety, professionalism, continuous improvement, and compliance with state regulations and industry standards. Support the College's mission, vision, values, and commitment to student success. Essential Responsibilities Teach assigned Cosmetology courses in classroom, laboratory, clinic, hybrid, and/or online learning environments. Prepare lesson plans, demonstrations, laboratory exercises, clinic activities, instructional materials, and assessments aligned with established course learning outcomes. Demonstrate and reinforce proper cosmetology techniques, sanitation, infection prevention, safety procedures, and client service skills. Supervise students during laboratory and clinic experiences to ensure safe and professional practice. Maintain accurate student attendance, grades, competency evaluations, and required instructional records in accordance with College policies. Evaluate student performance and provide timely, constructive feedback. Maintain current knowledge of cosmetology practices, trends, state regulations, instructional strategies, and industry standards. Ensure compliance with College policies, North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners regulations, OSHA standards, and clinic safety procedures. Collaborate with the Program Coordinator, Department Head, Dean, faculty, and staff to support program quality and student success. Perform other instructional duties as assigned. Applicants must meet the faculty credential requirements established by the North Carolina Community College System and Western Piedmont Community College. Additional program-specific licensing requirements may apply based on North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners regulations. Applicants must possess one of the following: Associate degree and a current North Carolina Cosmetology Teacher License; or Associate degree and a current North Carolina Manicurist Teacher License; or Associate degree and a current North Carolina Natural Hair Care Specialist Teacher License; or Current North Carolina Cosmetology Teacher License and recent, relevant professional experience in cosmetology; or Current North Carolina Manicurist Teacher License and recent, relevant professional experience in manicuring; or Current North Carolina Natural Hair Care Specialist Teacher License and recent, relevant professional experience in natural hair care. Teaching assignments will be based on the instructor's North Carolina teacher license and demonstrated area of expertise. Preference may be given to applicants who possess one or more of the following: Previous teaching experience in higher education, workforce development, or cosmetology education. Experience teaching cosmetology, manicuring, or natural hair care in classroom, laboratory, or clinic settings. Experience supervising students in a salon or clinic environment. Experience using instructional technology and learning management systems (e.g., Moodle, Blackboard, or Canvas). Demonstrated ability to create engaging, student-centered learning environments that promote student success. Excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills.
