Job Description:
Theatre West is seeking a dedicated and creative Theater Costumer to join our performing arts team. This position is responsible for costuming the cast for two annual productions and overseeing the student costume crew, as well as the hair and makeup crews. The ideal candidate has experience in costume design and construction, strong organizational skills, and a passion for mentoring students in theatrical production.
Responsibilities:
Design, source, and create costumes for two annual productions (one in fall, one in spring). Organize and maintain the costume shop, inventory, and supplies. Collaborate with the director and production team to align costume designs with the show's vision. Supervise and mentor student costume crew, teaching basic sewing and costume care skills. Oversee hair and makeup crews, ensuring styling aligns with the production's needs. Conduct costume fittings and alterations as needed. Manage costume budget and maintain detailed expense records. Ensure all costumes are properly cleaned, stored, and/or returned after each production.
Qualifications:
Experience in costume design, sewing, and alterations (theatrical experience preferred). Ability to lead and instruct students with varying levels of experience. Strong organizational and time management skills. Creativity, flexibility, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and parent volunteers.
Work Schedule:
Part-time, seasonal position (workload increases leading up to productions). Evening and weekend availability required during dress rehearsals and performances.
