Job Description
We're not your typical salon. Cookie Cutters Haircuts for Kids is looking for an experienced stylist who is ready for more responsibility, but still loves being behind the chair. This is a working Assistant Salon Manager position. You'll spend most of your week cutting hair and taking care of customers, while also helping our leadership team manage the organization and keep the salon running smoothly. We're looking for someone who can be both a great stylist and a dependable leader. You'll do great here if you: Are an experienced, confident hairstylist Enjoy working with kids and families Take ownership instead of waiting for someone else to handle a problem Can give employees direction when needed Stay calm when a customer or employee situation becomes difficult Are comfortable coaching and training other stylists Communicate clearly and professionally Notice problems and take care of them Are dependable and show up on time Can balance your own appointments while keeping an eye on what is happening throughout the salon Understand that being a leader sometimes means pitching in wherever you're needed You might NOT enjoy this position if you: Only want to focus on your own customers Don't like being responsible for what other employees are doing Avoid difficult conversations Prefer someone else to make all the decisions Aren't comfortable working with children Want a slow-paced salon environment Don't want to occasionally adjust your schedule when the salon really needs you What you'll do: You'll work closely with our leadership team to help manage the day-to-day operations of the salon.
Responsibilities include:
Work as a stylist and maintain a regular appointment schedule Assist the leadership team with daily salon operations Help ensure appointments stay on schedule and customers receive great service Supervise and provide direction to employees when other leadership team members are not present Help stylists resolve difficult customer situations Respond to customer questions, concerns, and complaints Train new employees on salon procedures, policies, POS functions, and customer service expectations Coach employees and help reinforce established standards Assist with employee scheduling and staffing needs Participate in interviewing and hiring new employees Provide input regarding employee performance Help identify and address employee performance problems Motivate the team to meet retail, prepaid card, and salon revenue goals Monitor salon supplies and make sure needed products are stocked Help ensure cash-handling procedures are followed Make sure daily opening, closing, cleaning, and salon procedures are completed properly Help maintain a clean, organized, professional, and safe salon Keep the leadership team informed about important operational or employee issues Step in and help cover staffing emergencies when necessary Your schedule: This is a full-time position. As a working Assistant Salon Manager/Stylist, you will normally have at least 32 hours of bookable stylist appointments each week, with additional management responsibilities incorporated into your schedule. Saturday availability is important because weekends are some of our busiest times. 3 Saturdays scheduled per month are expected. We are closed every Sunday.
Qualifications:
Active Missouri Cosmetology or Barber License At least 2 years of full-time hairstyling experience preferred Previous leadership, supervisory, or management experience is a strong plus High school diploma or equivalent Strong haircutting skills Experience working with children is helpful, but not required Ability to train and coach employees Strong customer-service and people skills Clear written and verbal communication Good judgment and problem-solving ability Strong time-management and organizational skills Dependable and detail-oriented What matters most: We can teach you our systems. We can teach you how Cookie Cutters does kids' haircuts. What we need is someone with maturity, judgment, integrity, and the willingness to take responsibility. You need to be the person who sees that something needs to be done and takes care of it.
