Part-time, Full-time Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team full-time.
We are a full-service small animal practice in the Village of Oak Creek, Arizona. We are a fast paced, high-quality practice, that focuses on providing excellent medicine and surgery to our patients. We are looking for an experienced assistant/technician committed to helping us achieve our goals. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing high-quality care for animals while supporting our veterinary staff in various tasks. They will function well in a fast-paced environment with strong organizational, leadership, prioritizing, and communication skills. This position requires a strong understanding of animal anatomy and physiology, as well as experience in pet care and veterinary practices. We will provide on the job training and learning opportunities to help you grow. Responsibilities Taking patients histories and TPRs. Be able to safely lift 40 pounds unassisted. Maintaining medication records and assisting veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and other procedures. Provide proper animal restraint techniques to ensure the safety of pets and staff. Prepare and maintain surgical instruments using aseptic techniques. Monitor the health and behavior of animals during their stay at the clinic. Administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian. Able to preform venipuncture, placing IV catheters, and conducting in house laboratory testing. Know correct positioning and technique for dental radiographs in addition to anatomical position for limbs, thorax, and abdominal radiographs. Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of the clinic facilities. Greet clients at the front desk, provide information, and assist with scheduling appointments. Answering phones and scheduling appointments when needed. Educate pet owners on proper pet care, nutrition, and preventive health measures. Qualifications Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant or in a similar role is preferred. Knowledge of veterinary critical care practices is a plus. Familiarity with animal anatomy and physiology is essential. Strong skills in animal restraint techniques for various species, including equine if applicable. Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with clients and team members. Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment. A genuine love for animals and commitment to their welfare. Certification in veterinary assistance or related field is advantageous but not required.
