Responsibilities Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures involving horses. Prepare and maintain veterinary equipment, including radiology and laboratory tools, ensuring proper sterilization and functionality. Perform animal restraint and handling to facilitate safe examinations and treatments, utilizing knowledge of animal behavior and physiology. Administer medications, vaccines, and fluids via appropriate routes such as IV insertion or catheterization while adhering to aseptic techniques. Support diagnostic imaging procedures including X-ray and radiology diagnostics, ensuring accurate positioning and safety protocols. Conduct laboratory work such as blood draws (phlebotomy), sample collection, and processing for diagnostic testing. Monitor anesthesia during surgical procedures or critical care cases, maintaining patient stability through veterinary anesthesia monitoring techniques. Assist with dental procedures by understanding dental terminology and performing routine dental cleanings or extractions when needed. Maintain detailed medical records using veterinary software, documenting treatments, procedures, and patient progress accurately. Communicate effectively with clients about equine care instructions, treatment plans, and post-procedure care to ensure understanding and compliance. Qualifications Previous equine experience or equine animal husbandry background preferred; experience with horses is highly valued. Knowledge of equine veterinary terminology, equine anatomy, physiology, and emergency medicine practices. Hands-on experience with equine veterinary critical care, anesthesia administration, vascular access, IV insertion, and pet grooming is advantageous. Familiarity with laboratory procedures such as phlebotomy and diagnostic radiology enhances your ability to support clinical diagnostics. Strong equine handling skills across different breeds with an emphasis on safety and restraint techniques. Ability to operate medical equipment including radiology machines, laboratory analyzers, and anesthesia monitoring devices. Excellent communication skills for client interaction and team collaboration within a fast-paced environment. Certification or experience in veterinary technician roles is preferred but not required; ongoing training opportunities are available for motivated candidates.
