North Laurel Animal Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our supportive, collaborative team. We're searching for someone who is compassionate, motivated, detail-oriented, and ready to provide critical support to our veterinarians and veterinary technicians. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys variety. Why You'll Love It Here Join a supportive and collaborative veterinary team Build your clinical, patient care, and client communication skills Gain hands-on experience across multiple areas of the hospital Work alongside veterinarians and veterinary technicians who value teamwork Grow your veterinary knowledge through professional development and skill-building opportunities Make a meaningful difference in the care and comfort of patients every day Enjoy employee pet care discounts and meaningful benefits What You'll Do Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with patient restraint during exams, treatments, and blood draws Help ensure the safety and comfort of patients and team members during procedures Prepare, clean, and sterilize surgical suites, instruments, and equipment Monitor hospitalized patients and report changes in patient status to the medical team Assist with basic laboratory procedures, including preparing fecal, urine, and blood samples Maintain accurate electronic medical records, including patient histories, vitals, and treatments Clean, sanitize, and stock exam rooms, treatment areas, and kennels Feed, walk, and provide routine care for hospitalized patients and boarders Monitor inventory levels and communicate supply needs to management Greet clients and patients warmly and assist with check-in and check-out as needed Educate clients on basic pet care, preventatives, and post-appointment instructions Answer phones and schedule appointments Complete pharmacy refill requests Process client payments and support front desk workflows What You'll Bring A high school diploma or equivalent At least one year of veterinary hospital experience preferred Knowledge of animal restraint techniques and basic veterinary terminology Basic knowledge of veterinary pharmacology Experience with veterinary practice management software Strong communication and client service skills The ability to lift up to 40 pounds independently and stand for extended periods A strong work ethic and exceptional attention to detail A calm and professional approach in a fast-paced environment A team-first mindset and willingness to support coworkers throughout the hospital Compassion for animals and a commitment to high-quality patient care Motivation to continue learning and developing your veterinary skills Benefits You Can't Beat Financial Benefits A flexible approach to compensation that reflects your skill set and future performance 401(k) matching & Roth Retirement Savings Plan Flexible Spending Account (full-time only) 529 Savings Plan Tuition Support Program (full-time only) Referral bonus program Wellness Benefits Health insurance, including medical, dental, and vision (full-time only) Supplemental insurance, including accident, critical illness, hospital, short and long-term disability, legal plan, and employee, spouse, and child-dependent life insurance (full-time only) Up to three weeks of full pay for the birth or adoption of a child (full-time employees only; available after one year of service).
