Veterinary Technician/Assistant Gray Animal Center ~ Gray, Maine

• This is a full-time position
• We are a very busy fast-paced practice, and we pride ourselves on providing affordable and compassionate care.

We may be a small team, but we work together to be understanding of our client's and pet's needs, often stretching our schedule to accommodate emergencies on a daily basis. We primarily service companion animals, like dogs, cats and some pocket pets, but there is often opportunity to see wildlife, as we work closely with the Maine Wildlife Park. We also have a strong passion for rescue, working with multiple animal shelter and rescue groups throughout Maine and beyond. Duties and Responsibilities:

-Checks patient medical records for past histories, enters in computer and files. Takes medical histories and vital signs of patients.

• Maintains client educational material in an efficient manner.
• Performs departmental housekeeping duties.
• Admits and discharges patients.
• Takes, processes and logs prescription refills in-house, call out pharmacy and online pharmacy.
• Monitoring hospital patients and logging vital signs.
• Administering medications to patients as needed.
• Placing catheters and performing blood draws.
• Restraining and assisting the doctor during exams, treatments, and anesthesia procedures.
• Client communication via phone and/or email for post-surgical check-ins, relaying information, test results and other doctor recommendations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Registered Veterinary Technicians in MAINE are preferred, not necessarily required. We are open and willing to train the right candidate.
