Sr. Animal Care Specialist and Foster Coordinator - Cat Rescue

Job Description

Overview The primary focus of the Senior Animal Care Specialist and Foster Coordinator is to provide fear free medical care to cats in our sanctuary and in foster homes and to coordinate with fosters in the placement and care of fostered animals. This position is 5 days per week. We are flexible about which days of the week. Duties and Responsibilities Animal Care Provide food and water and administer oral, topical and subcutaneous medications and/or treatments as noted in each animal's chart. Complete physical examinations, vaccinations, microchips, flea and worm treatments for onsite animals and animals in foster homes. Draw blood and run the combo test for
FIV/FELV
as needed. Schedule veterinary appointments as needed. Monitor the physical and behavioral health of all animals in our care. Document observations and treatments in the medical records system. Maintain the sanctuary in a neat, clean/sanitary, and orderly manner. Help with cleaning tasks including dishes, scooping litter boxes, cleaning cages, changing animal linens, sweep/mop floors. Train new Animal Care Specialists. Foster Coordination Onboard new fosters. Schedule onsite vetting for foster animals directly with the foster. Communicate with fosters on a regular basis. Coordinate with the Director on animal intake, movement to foster or adoption centers, foster vacation coverage, etc. Coordinate with the TNVR lead to schedule the appropriate animals for spay and neuter appointments with the foster. Maintain current foster roster and foster manual. Physical Job Requirements Must be able to lift 30 lbs. Must be able to work around animals (including diseased, injured, and/or potentially aggressive animals), loud noises, unpleasant smells, chlorine or other chemicals, indoors, and outdoors in all weather. Must be able to stand and walk on hard surfaces for multiple hours at a time. Qualifications and Experience Must have a minimum of 1 year as a veterinary assistant or veterinary technician in a rescue or clinic. Experience working with cats and knowledge of cat behavior is required. Experience volunteering or working with a rescue group, humane society, or other animal welfare agency is required. Proficiency with Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office products. High school diploma required..
