Job Description

Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) About Us PetMed Urgent Care is a privately owned veterinary urgent care practice in San Luis Obispo that opened in 2023. We are looking for a skilled, motivated Registered Veterinary Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate wants to practice high-quality medicine, work as part of a collaborative team, and use their technical skills to their full potential. Dr. Ethan Responsibilities Provide high-quality nursing care for urgent care and outpatient patients. Recognize and appropriately respond to common veterinary emergencies. Perform patient triage and obtain accurate patient histories and vital signs. Place IV catheters and collect blood and urine samples. Perform venipuncture and process in-house laboratory samples. Administer medications, injections, fluids, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian. Calculate and administer medications accurately. Monitor hospitalized and sedated patients. Assist with sedation, anesthesia, and patient recovery. Obtain diagnostic radiographs using appropriate positioning and radiation safety. Assist veterinarians with procedures, wound care, bandaging, and other treatments. Perform dental prophylaxis and assist with dental procedures within the RVT scope of practice. Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, veterinarians, and other team members. Review veterinarian-approved treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions with clients. Document treatments, patient monitoring, client communications, and other appropriate information in the medical record. Maintain cleanliness and organization of treatment and patient care areas. Clean, disinfect, and properly maintain medical equipment and instruments. Maintain appropriate inventory and restock treatment areas as needed. Work collaboratively with veterinarians, veterinary assistants, and other members of the PetMed team. Follow hospital protocols and maintain appropriate standards for patient safety, infection control, and controlled substances. What We're Looking For We are looking for an RVT who is confident in their technical skills, communicates well, works efficiently, and enjoys being part of a small collaborative team. Urgent care or emergency experience is preferred, but we are also open to experienced RVTs from general practice who are comfortable working in a faster-paced environment and want to continue developing their skills. Current California RVT license required.

$25.00 - $33.00 per hour
