Technicians in this role assist with emergency triage, diagnostics, treatments, procedures, anesthesia, and the continuous monitoring of hospitalized patients throughout the night. The ideal candidate is dependable, confident in their technical abilities, able to think critically, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where patient needs and priorities can change quickly. This position follows a four-on, four-off rotation and includes weekends and holidays. Key Responsibilities Provide compassionate nursing care to emergency and hospitalized patients Perform patient intake, obtain medical histories, weights, and vital signs, and assist with examinations Perform emergency triage and promptly communicate patient status to the veterinarian Continuously monitor hospitalized and critical patients throughout the overnight shift Recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately Collect diagnostic samples, including blood, urine, and other laboratory specimens Perform in-house laboratory testing, radiographs, blood pressure measurements, cystocentesis, and other technician duties within scope of practice Place and maintain intravenous catheters and collect blood samples Calculate and administer medications, fluids, and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian Prepare patients, equipment, and surgical areas for emergency procedures Monitor anesthesia before, during, and after procedures to help ensure patient safety Assist veterinarians with emergency procedures, treatments, surgery, and critical cases Safely restrain patients for examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures Accurately maintain medical records and complete patient documentation in a timely manner Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients regarding patient care, treatment plans, estimates, and discharge instructions Feed, medicate, walk, clean, and provide ongoing nursing care for hospitalized patients Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the hospital, including exam rooms, treatment areas, surgery, laboratory, radiology, ICU, and kennels Complete laundry, dishes, trash removal, and general hospital cleaning duties Maintain inventory and restock medications, treatment supplies, and other hospital materials as needed Work collaboratively with veterinarians, receptionists, assistants, and fellow technicians Perform additional duties as assigned to support overnight hospital operations Qualifications Minimum of one year of experience as a Veterinary Technician Emergency, urgent care, or specialty experience preferred Experience with anesthesia monitoring required Proficiency in venipuncture, IV catheter placement, patient restraint, laboratory procedures, and radiology Strong critical-thinking, organizational, and time-management skills Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced emergency environment Ability to work independently while remaining collaborative and team-focused Excellent communication and client-service skills Dependable, professional, and able to remain calm under pressure High school diploma or equivalent Veterinary Technician certification or licensure preferred but not required, where applicable Must be authorized to work in the United States Must be available to work overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays as scheduled Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with assistance for larger patients Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift throughout an active overnight shift Comfortable safely handling animals of all sizes, medical conditions, and temperaments Ability to work efficiently in a physically demanding and fast-paced hospital environment Join Our Team If you thrive in emergency medicine, enjoy the variety of overnight patient care, and want to continue building your technical skills, we would love to hear from you.
