We are looking for two compassionate and hard-working individuals to join our animal care team as we prepare to open our brand new shelter facility on August 22nd! Animal Care Technicians provide daily care for our shelter animals while helping maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming shelter environment. This position combines hands-on animal care with customer service, adoption support, and collaboration with staff and volunteers to promote positive outcomes for the animals in our care. Professional animal care experience is required.
Job Duties:
Provide daily care for dogs and cats, including feeding, watering, cleaning, enrichment, exercise, and socialization. Clean and disinfect kennels, cages, catteries, dishes, bedding, and other animal care areas according to shelter sanitation and disease-prevention protocols. Help maintain the overall cleanliness, organization, and appearance of the shelter facility, including public and shared spaces. Observe animals for signs of illness, injury, stress, or behavioral concerns and promptly communicate changes to appropriate staff. Administer medications and basic treatments as directed and accurately document care provided. Safely handle and move animals throughout the shelter and assist with intake, housing, and other daily shelter operations. Engage with members of the public during the adoption process, including introducing potential adopters to animals, sharing information about animals in our care, and helping create a welcoming adoption experience. Work alongside volunteers and help provide direction and support to volunteers assisting with animal care, cleaning, enrichment, and socialization activities. Maintain accurate animal care records and follow established safety, sanitation, and animal-handling procedures. Assist with other shelter duties as needed to support animals, visitors, volunteers, and overall shelter operations.
Qualifications:
Previous animal care, shelter, veterinary, or boarding kennel experience required. Compassionate, dependable, and comfortable working with dogs and cats of varying sizes, breeds, temperaments, and medical conditions. Strong customer service and communication skills and a willingness to engage positively with adopters, volunteers, and other members of the public. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow established animal care and shelter procedures. Strong observational skills and attention to detail. Ability to perform physically demanding work, including standing, bending, lifting, cleaning, and working in a busy and sometimes noisy shelter environment. Ability to work either Saturday or Sunday every week.
