The Part-Time Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for enforcing municipal ordinances, property maintenance standards, and other applicable local codes. The officer investigates complaints, documents violations, and works with residents and property owners to achieve voluntary compliance while protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the community. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Investigate complaints regarding property maintenance, nuisance violations, abandoned vehicles, trash accumulation, weeds, and other code-related concerns. Issue notices of violation, warning letters, citations, and enforcement orders as authorized by municipal ordinances and state law. Maintain accurate records of inspections, complaints, correspondence, and enforcement actions. Prepare reports for the governing body, municipal administration, and legal counsel as required. Attend hearings, court proceedings, and meetings related to code enforcement matters. Respond to inquiries from residents, property owners, contractors, and businesses regarding code requirements. Monitor compliance deadlines and follow up on outstanding violations. Perform other related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Experience in code enforcement, zoning administration, property maintenance, construction, law enforcement, municipal government, or a related field preferred. Knowledge of municipal ordinances, zoning regulations, and property maintenance standards preferred. Ability to interpret and apply local ordinances, regulations, and policies. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment. Proficiency with basic computer applications, including email, word processing, excel, and record-keeping software. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required. Physical Requirements Ability to walk on uneven terrain and inspect properties in various weather conditions. Ability to climb stairs and perform site inspections. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Work Schedule This is a part-time position requiring approximately 20 hours per week. Hours may vary based on municipal needs and may include occasional evening meetings, hearings, or court appearances.
